268219 galoot@l... 2019‑03‑26 anyone interested in Pennsic?
Gentle galoots and good Gentles:

Well since Darrell pointed out 6 years ago that he would like a bit
more warning, and he and the family has assimilated very well, I
thought I would inquire if anyone would like to try out Pennsic (if
not, hit delete now).

Basically you must preregister with our group online by June 19, fee
US$170 per adult non-member (kids much cheaper) for August 2 through 11.

You must arrive prepared to tent camp while wearing "poofy shirt" type
clothes (pointers to easy sewing patterns available on request, many
merchants available to help if $$ is not an issue). The camping is
fine with modern equipment and the clothes require a "reasonable
attempt" which is loosely interpreted, good mundane shoes and any
medical stuff (glasses, braces etc.) strongly encouraged.
While on site you are expected to be courteous and considerate (ie
channel your inner Boy Scout).

Activities: shopping, fighting, shopping, archery, shopping, dancing
(Western and Middle Eastern), shopping, theater (a musical this year
plus a ton of Commedia d'al Arte which is an period improv based on
stock characters which ranges from innocent to extremely bawdy),
shopping, concerts, shopping, throwing sharp pointy objects, shopping,
1000+ free or trivial fee classes, and did I mention shopping?

You could appear in a borrowed T tunic with plastic and dress yourself
skin out head to toe with accessories and buy tent, furniture, bedding,
and everything else you need if you chose. We have 2 food courts and a
mini grocery with far more real food than the most convenience stores,
slightly higher than the giant grocery 10 miles away but conveniently
on site. Some people with interesting hobbies like those involving
period pigment stock up for the year at Pennsic.

The opening court (major pageantry) is probably Saturday night, battles
all week, incredible Arts and Sciences display Sunday, massive shopping
with entertainment on Wednesday evening, play (this year a musical,
every other year Shakespeare) Friday night (cast the year before,
conference phone read throughs, rehearsal starts Saturday before the
performance, amazing!

If interested, shoot me an email for details. Galoots Darrell and
Kathy with charming now adult Kidz camp with us so you have some
friendly native guides, Darrell generally brings a pole lathe which
amuses and sometimes inveigles passers-by and I now have a folding
bench based on the one in St. Roy's book, tools welcome.

[snippage as per FAQ]

And yes, I am bringing my pole lathe again.
There are old ways and means all over the place.
From woodworking to textiles to metal work (there
is an entire encampment of blacksmiths!) to pottery
and all things in between and outside the box.

I swear the hardest part of Pennsic is NOT acquiring
more slippery slopes.

Never made it to Pennsic during my brief SCA association in NY back in the
80’s.

Please, if you can, take some pics of the Blacksmith encampment, a slippery
slope encountered in my 40’s, which seems an ideal time to adopt elaborate
hobbies within thriving communities!
