GG's:

Thank you, Claudio, for posting this!

IMHO, "a thing or two" can be learned by studying the filing bench at about
2:15.

The bench is up against an upper floor window, judging from the view of a
streetlamp outside.

The back of the bench has an INCLINED tool board. This is a "nugget!" The
incline makes it possible to place tools without hang-holes or clips. I suspect
there is a huge motion saving over a vertical pegboard. Also, makes it possible
to get a good view of the "business end" of the tools for selection. (Think of
how may files, chisels, and gouges you'd like to have fully visible and readily
at hand!)

In front of the inclined tool board is a tool tray.

The actual work area has a gray covering which may be leather or the like.

The workpiece is held above the surface on two L-shaped rests which seem to be
readily moveable / removeable. This gives hand clearance for working at angles.

This has somewhat changed my concept of the ideal "against the wall" bench! I
now think a bench should be just a tad wider to accommodate an inclined tool
board.

I can envision a saw-sharpening and general sharpening bench beneath a window,
with the files and stones "standing at attention" along an inclined tool board.

Subject: [OldTools] Holland & Holland

I enjoyed watching the amount of hand work that goes into making one of
these lovely side by side shotguns.
I thought they would have gone To computerized gizmocity , but I guess when
people are paying them, they still do it the old way.
Pretty awesome galoot technology (in combination with some ‘lectricals )
- video shows mostly the hand work, in case anyone is interested.

Cheers from Montreal airport (sigh)
