267284 Kirk Eppler <eppler.kirk@g...> 2018‑12‑05 Galootaclaus has hit the Bay area
All

According to my GF, a package from a certain Darrell from the frozen north
arrived on Monday. I didn't get to see it, but she did show me the return
address label to make certain she was hiding the correct package.

He warned me it was coming, and feared a lengthy travel due to a postal
strike, but it appears to have made good time.

I hope I am as fortunate, as I will be mailing mine tomorrow to a land far
far away. Something about the PO being closed today for the funeral of a
well-respected president.

Hi All

As previously reported, Darrell LaRue sent a package that arrived in plenty
of time. It was squirreled away, not to be seen until Christmas morn.

Knowing Darrell and his stories of his offspring making certain that
Galootaclaus packages should be impenetrable, I came prepared with a large
pocket knife. After saving it til last, I had the family's attention as I
started to open it. It was a small box, at only 10" long, but WELL
sealed. As in. " flaps glued, then taped". I had to delaminate the
cardboard to get the end flaps open.

At this point, I could see a white envelope, some shavings (from picture
frames?), and a few wrapped bundles. I wisely moved from the sofa to the
dining room tile. I slowly extracted the envelope, and read the nice note
from Darrell, where his traditional method is to open everything with no
tools, attempting to undo his children's effort with a roll of tape. As I
had barely managed to open the box WITH tools, I expected defeat in my
future.

There were three tightly wrapped bundles, and a hand carved wooden spoon in
the package. Thank goodness the spoon was unwrapped, as I could display it
reasonably quickly. The next few packages were much more difficult, with
multiple layers of newspaper and tape. After struggling with each one for
several minutes each, I had to resort to the knife, bringing shame to
myself, Darrell and his family.

But, recovering from the shame, I did manage to get them open, and
extracted two very nice (and sharp) small spokeshaves from his user stash,
and a (? Damascus steel?) knife, I think correctly called a chip carving
knife, with what I believe is an antler handle, conveniently shaped for
gripping pleasure. Again, very sharp, with a leather sheath protecting me
from hurting myself.

These will get a test run in a few weeks, as I want to work on some olive
kitchenware.

And a pic to prove it happened.

Thanks to Darrell, the Head Elf Wrangler, and all the Galoots playing along.
