266729 "Cal Meier" <calmeier@s...> 2018‑10‑09 A recent post on aligning parts of a broken tote
Hi,
My search of the archives and a browse of the last 45 days did not find what I
was thinking about; so, perhaps the concept was posted else where. The method
described was an approach to actually near perfectly align the two part of a
broken tote using the origninal bore drilled for the bolt. The method involved
use of a bolt or tube of exactly or near exactly the bore diameter that Stanley
customarily drilled the holes for the long bolt to pass through. If the fit of
the two bores was perfect the idea was that the odds of having the two pieces
fit together perfectly and be held in place as the glue cured were greatly
increased. Was that posted someplace else.
Direction to the source would be greatly appreciated. Else, I will head for the
bolt bins in my local hardware store and attempting to stumble toward recreating
the wheel.

When the tote on a Stanley 8 is broken and the bolt simply tightened and
retightened as the wood, from plane use, shifted at the break, a good fit that
would hold in place has not been that obvious.

Thanks much in advance,

Cal Meier
