The thingy heart shaped is used as a stop in case you want to duplicate your
cut. I happen to have one of those thingy and was just about getting it
duplicated in case other folks wanted one,
I even have the ruler. Take a careful look at the framing. Find where the end
of the steel is. There should be 2 little pins, that is where the ruler fits
in.
If you decide to make one, make it out of something besides douglas fir or
pine. The thingy is heavy enough that the ruler will sag.
I solved the problem by building a adjustable brace
If you intend to buy a new backsaw double check that it will fit. Mine had
been sharpened so often that it would not cut to the bottom.
There is a number 400 that does not have the blade area but works very well when
assembling a picture frame.
I am not too swift at this stuff but will try to answER
DON'T GIVE IT AWAY, THOSE THINGS ARE RA RE AND EXPENSIVE

Subject: [OldTools] Marsh Miter Machine No. 100
GG's,
Over the past weekend I acquired a Marsh 100 miter machine from a neighbor. I'm
tickled. I've always wanted one of these. Judging from the PDF at Stan Faullin's
site the only pieces missing are the ruler and whatever you call the heart
shaped thing that slides along the ruler. So I understand what these parts look
like but what were the originals made of? Does anybody have some pictures of
them somewhere? I checked the Archives and Stanley no longer seems to stock
parts for its older line of tooling anymore. If (and it's a big IF) I ever get
around to cobbling up some sort of replacement I'd like to attempt to make it
seem like it belongs to this tool.
Regards,
