266129 Anthony Seo 2018‑07‑20 Jacktown Summer 2018 Steam Engine Show & Flea Market
Today was the start of the summer 2018 Jacktown Steam Engine show and
flea market.  The spring flea market got rained out, but the weather
gods smiled on us today, with early temps around 60F and it only up to
72F by the time I left.  They are calling for rain late on Saturday and
of COURSE on Sunday and there were some empty spots in the exhibitor
areas and the flea but there was plenty to look at.  I walked around for
over 2 hours and clocked over 2 miles on the old legs.

Of course I was there early.

Lots of neat stuff to look at.

Plenty of tools around at good user prices.

As well as lots of other stuff.

Pickings were okay and diverse.  Everything needs work but you will have
this.  I got 3 blacksmith tongs, a small stone mason carving hammer
head, an early Nantucket pattern cooper's hoop driver head, a neat early
hand forged blacksmith set hammer, a Pexto No. 7 tinsmith seamer, and an
uncommon C Hammond Boston cobbler's hammer (Hammond was based in
Philadelphia PA and this is the first tool of this that I have seen with
a Boston mark.)

Top there is an L Bailey spokeshave to restore, a USMSC nail pliers, a
neat brass machinist depth gage, a P S Stubs screw plate, a turnscrew
with a cast iron handle, a Stanley No. 91 mortising gauge, a hand vise,
and a USMC leather thickness gauge.

I got a James Swan 6" drawknife, Stanley chisel, a couple of Stanley
screwdriver bits for a brace (those puppies are getting hard to find), a
Starrett inside caliper, a machinist's V-block, a small marking gauge
that needs a blade, a head for a Starrett No. 13 square, and an old
Stanley bevel square.

Not a super pile but enough to make the trip worthwhile.  Now to get to
the "real" work.

Tony (who is really wishing somebody would turn off the Sunday rain
tap..it's getting old..)
