Well, I NEEDED to make a knife sheath today. lol
My leather skills are kind of rusty I must say. Its been a while.
Not the crispiest work, but it'll hold. :)
anyhoo

My friend Rob had found a miniature knife and sent it to me one time.
The smallest stacked leather traditional hunter pattern I ever saw.
I know this originally was 1/2 of a "kangaroo" set. A regular knife
with a little one mounted in front.
Kissign Crane out of Solingen, in case you wondered.

I was thinking about how to secure the knife in the sheath.  I didn't
have a tiny snap for the usual strap. I thought about making a leather
tie, but that seemed too fumbly to get on and off.
Then a crazy idea came.  How about a simple leather tab like
gunslingers used, to keep their pistol hammers tied down in their holsters?

So, what's wrong with this approach? How is it, out of literally
thousands of knife sheaths I have seen I never saw this? Surely if it
was a good idea someone else would have done it?
Maybe its been done lots of times and I just never saw it?

    Jack??? Paging JB??

Hey, Scott, why not? I may just adopt this approach in replacing the flap
retainer on my cellphone belt holster — the design I’m referring to is visible
here:

	http://www.colonellittleton.com/?s=No.+47+phone+holster

After five years of pretty steady use and considerable accumulation of ‘patina',
some repair is needed. The leather retainer that holds the flap closed, thereby
securing the phone, has acquired a habit of slipping off the brass ball stud
more than it stays on. The the slit in the retainer has spread open with use
and just won’t grab the ball tightly. Your approach, adapted to barely slip
over the stud and stay on via a snug fit, could extend this holster's usefulness
a few more years. So now there is one more use for my somewhat neglected
leatherworking hole punches. Most of those punches are very likely 50-100 years
old, so they definitely are old tools — and in what may present no surprise to
many of us, the older punches work quite a bit better than youngest / newest
punch in the bunch.
