Galoots, The family will be traveling for a very quick trip to New York City next month. Since I am not interested in several activities that SWMBO and SWMBOette are planning, I am hoping to make a quick shopping trip of my own. Since it will be quick, I can only make one stop. Does anyone have an opinion of Garrett Wade vs. Tools For Working Wood? I am open to either one, and I would bet that either would be a good store, just wanted to know if anyone has gone to both, would they recommend one over the other. Thanks for any help! Gary Maze |

Well, you might check Joel's blog for some hints, at https://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/store/blog/JOEL/title/Joel's%20Blog The blog entry from May 3 is about the boxwood miniature carvings on display at Cloisers (Esther pinged us about these some weeks ago). I'd aim my sights there, as I couldn't see those by mail order. Not that you mentioned a third option, but that's what you get when asking for advice. cur |

Gary, Well, for what it's worth, I'd rather go to TFWW. Bought a number of things from them and all highest quality and not too bad pricing. I'd really like to go there in person. They are not open on Saturday (or weren't), so keep that it mind. Enjoy your trip1 Dwight |

They are both nice stores to be sure. Your time constraints combined with wherever you’re staying while in NYC may have more to do with your choice than anything else. Garrett Wade is closest to lower Manhattan and can be combined with a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge if the weather is nice. TFWW requires a longer subway ride to Greenwood Cemetery, which is also worth a visit in its own right, weather permitting. The “N” and "R” trains however, have always been a slow ride in Brooklyn, recent news articles about the subway’s woes notwithstanding. I could never make a trip to TFWW from my office in lower Manhattan at lunchtime that could approach anything remotely like 90 minutes. YMMV John |
