262333 "Brent Parkin" <brent@e...> 2017‑05‑23 Found a Steers patent block plane
GG's.

While I was on my way to the Handworks show in Iowa, I dropped into an
antique shop along the interstate. I found a little block plane that
intrigued me and decided to pony up the $12 asking price for it. Then I got
lucky and they knocked 15% off at the till.

I was intrigued by it looking older than most block planes. It had an
adjustable mouth and a depth adjustment I had never seen before. The lever
cap screw had obviously been damaged but worked and someone had sprayed some
clear coat over the plane (That is coming off). It turns out that this
little plane was made in Brattleboro, VT. From the photos I saw on the WEB,
the damage to the lever cap screw was common. An undamaged one would be a
lot like the ornate Bailey ones.

Anyway, it was unusual enough that I thought some might like to see it. I
could not think of how to share photos other than add a page to my business
site so here is a link to the photos. The adjuster is simple and elegant
when you see how it works using an eccentric lever.

What is broken? Can’t see any problems. Cute little plane.
