'Lo all, Here is a link to said Kerf Starter: http://www.glen- drake.com/Thin-.020-Kerf-Starter.html">http://www.glen-drake.com/Thin-.020-Kerf- Starter.html Here is the text describing the tool: The thinnest Kerf-Starter (.020) works well for Japanese and other very thin saws. Like the other Kerf-Starters, it removes a shaving the same way other scrapers remove shavings, leaving a shallow kerf that captures your saw. Use the Kerf-Starter with a square to layout square lines across end grain and with the long grain. You may also use it to layout one part of a joint from another as in laying out dovetail pins from already-cut tails (offset the tail piece to keep the kerf in the waste). I am very unclear about the meaning of the parenthetical phrase in the last sentence. Derek, can you elucidate? Cheers, John John M. Johnston jmjhnstn@m... "P.S. I'd use this with whatever grind on the tip that worked best https://www.lowes.com/pd/IRWIN-1-Blade-Utility-Knife/50084018?cm_mmc=SC E_PLA-_-ToolsAndHardware-_-UtilityKnives-_-50084018:IRWIN&CAWELAID=&kpid=5008401 8&CAGPSPN=pla&store_code=1590&k_clickID=95c900ba-5528-4572-a871-332f8d76cfba">ht tps://www.lowes.com/pd/IRWIN-1-Blade-Utility-Knife/50084018?cm_mmc=SCE_PLA-_-Too lsAndHardware-_-UtilityKnives-_-50084018:IRWIN&CAWELAID=&kpid=50084018&CAGPSPN=p la&store_code=1590&k_clickID=95c900ba-5528-4572-a871-332f8d76cfba $4.00 |

Cliff, The only problem with that "knife" is that it is way too thick. Unless you are using a pit saw. Don't mean to be mean about it, it just won't work for fine tolerances. Nathan Goodwin |

Don't mean to be mean about it, it just won't work for fine tolerances. As is probably. But it seems to me that if you grind off the tip on your hand-crank grinder, and reshape the 'off' side as needed, a hook of the desired shape & size could be formed. For the price, it might be worth trying. Don -- Let's all get normal at the luau - 'Frizz' Fuller |

Ed, That looks like an older version of the Red Devil 1170 Plexiglas Cutting Tool. I have a similar tool with a brazed carbide cutting edge; I think I bought it to work with Formica (TM) laminate. John Ruth ________________________________ From: OldTools |

I have one I keep precisely for cutting plexiglass. Joe |
