18938 <baden@C...> 1997‑05‑22 Brief bio...
John Patsey reminded me that:

> that a bio is expected before jumping in, so here goes.

Professionally, I have a PhD in Anthropology from the University of
Tennessee. My specialty area is archaeology with an emphasis on
computer applications. I worked on the Tellico Archaeological Project
for UT and the TVA in the late 70's. Served time at the University Museum,
University of Pennsylvania back in 85-86. Have been a programmer and, now,
coordinator of academic computing here at IPFW for that past 10 years.
This fall I will be spending a year teaching anthropology in what I call
a "reverse sabbatical." If any of this rings true to fellow galoots, let
me know. Many anthro's ('specially archaeologists) tend toward the "way
of the galoot." I consider myself extremely eclectic when it comes to
tools. I do silica (rocks) to silicon (computers). Somewhere in between
there's room for iron!

My father was a farmer/carpenter and I received my first paycheck doing
carpentry when I was 10. Put me through school, as well. My
"traditionalist" side was attracted to the Wooodwright's Shop from
it's first season on and I have become a true believer. I am blessed
by a family that had lots of tools, so I also have all kinds of "toys" --
inherited and purchased. Now all I need is time to perfect my use of
them! My latest project involves finishing our new log home -- floors,
casing, etc.. We prefer that colonial frontier look in houses
and furnishing. Hopefully, by the end of the year...

Anyway, it's been good to be on the porch. Is that old-growth wood?

Bill
