169703 "" <jem1098@p...> 2007‑05‑08 BIO Update
Hello - I've been lurking in digest mode on/off since '97 (on when I was
in the US, off when I was overseas), don't think I've had much of
anything to say since '98. Since I'll be posting some questions later in
the week I figured I should update my bio first. I retired from the Army
in 2004 (MI, 98G-Arabic for you military types). Spent a year in Cuba,
now I'm in southern AZ working as a contractor at Fort Huachuca. Just
bought a small house on five acres, laid the foundation for a 24x26
workshop last weekend and plan to start framing next weekend. Meanwhile
I've got tools in the shed, tools in the closets, tools coming out my
ears. I'm about 50-50 split between hand and p**er tools. I've got tons
of users, but I've got no problem saying I'm also a collector. (I
counted 47 yankee style screwdriver bits last night in one box - just a
couple more than a "user" can justify) My major weakness would have to
be braces/augers but I'll jump on anything with the right patina -
especially down here in old-tool hell with its slim pickings. No SWMBO
except for a pit/lab mix I rescued from the pound - she'll let me buy
anything as long as I keep her well- fed. Latest find was a Millers
Falls #22C-BG, Near-Mint in the box - $25. I think based on the number
on the side, the plain brown box, and the location (army post thrift
store)that this was part of an Army toolchest sometime back in the late
sixties. Future plans: I've got 2 #113 circular planes. If I can find
just one more I think I can rig them up to an old Singer treadle stand
and make a treadle-powered planer...
