I recently found a screw operated (modern, technical
version of a forged holdfast :-) at a fair price.
I thought it was anonymous, but during rust removal,
I discovered a shallow stamp that indicated
William Marples (Hibernia) and the usual
Shamrock.
What surprises me is the scale and weight of the
thing:

It weighs 2650 gm (5lbs, 13 oz) and the shaft
is 25mm (let's face it, it's an inch).
Are they usually this robust?
