117202 "Chuck Digney" <planewood1@y...> 2003‑05‑04 Bio (longish)
Most esteemed GG's,
How is everyone? I have been lurking under the porch here for a little
over a year. I have found the discussions here to be quite interesting and
informative. As a dad with nine children, you can bet my time to sit and
post a bio, as well as time in the shop, is very limited. However, I would
like to join in the discussions, so here is the info:
I worked in the basement with my dad on all sorts of w.w. projects. He was
an engineer and an awesome craftsman. He could fix anything! He taught me
to respect and maintain my tools so they would easily do the job required.
Right out of high school I worked as a carpenter, so I learned to apply my
skills in a big way. Over the years I have bought, used, and sold many
tailed tools. In fact, I still have my dad's ts he bought in `42 (does
that count as an "old tool"?). Anyway, I'm selling ALL of those tailed
devils next weekend at the local school "sale". Even though they have a
lot of sentimental value, they must go to create a budget for the
aquisition of hand tools. I own some nice hand tools as it is, but now I
need quite a few more to replace the work that those "other" tools could
do. Plus, hand tools don't create the dust that seems to annoy SWMBO. She
loves the chips for her garden, but the dust drives her insane. Also, I
can work in my shop at night without waking the sleeping children.
So, thanks for letting me share, and I look forward to getting many
lessons and advise from the group. Thanks.
