Beer Brewing Equipment -- Mashtun

My mashtun is a 10 gallon Igloo cooler using a stainless steel hose braid
as a strainer (thanks to Denny Conn for the idea) and a brass ball valve to
control the flow. From the outside I've got a 3/8" hose barb fitting, a 90
degree street elbow and the brass ball valve. The ball valve shoulder
tightens against a brass and a silicone washer, and is screwed into a brass
nipple which passes through the hole in the cooler. On the inside, a
second 3/8" hose barb fitting tightens against another brass and silicon
washer. A short section of 3/8" silicone tubing fits over the hose barb,
and the stainless hose braid is fitted over the tubing and clamped with a
stainless hose clamp. At the back of the hose braid, it's turned over on
itself a few turns, and a small piece of silicone tubing holds the end
closed. The area in between is open.
