I have a Record Multi-plane No 405 and the user's manual for it (dated 1960). This plane is pretty much a clone of the Stanley 45. I could scan the manual and publish it on my web site, if people thought it useful. Any interest in that idea? Everyone happy with Acrobat/pdf format? I know there are several ways to get facsimile copies of the Stanley and Record manuals, but a quick search didn't find a free downloadable one. If there is one, there is not much need for me to do it too -- please tell me if you know of one. (I have been reading this list for a few weeks, and this is my first post. Should I have introduced myself with a bio first?) Peter Marquis-Kyle

Hi Peter, I've been looking for a manual that is more complete than the one Stanley published for years. Does this one go into more detail? If so, I'd like to see it. With Record still in business (they are, aren't they?) you might be prepared for copyright problems from them. I would consider writing and asking permission first, although there's a lot to say for the theory that it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission, in most instances... As to posting a bio, the list is fairly informal, but we all appreciate bio's. It helps to know something about a person's frame of reference. Regards, Larry Poffenberger (rustytool) lkp@r... Sorry Larry, the Record manual is not a copy of the Stanley one, but it covers the same ground at the same level of detail. It just explains (with diagrams) how to assemble and adjust the plane for various operations. Even so, I think it is worth putting a copy on the web. (I'll veer off the topic, and mention that I have a copy of a Gossen Lunasix photographic light meter on my web site -- I have been amazed to see that people from all over the world visit it every day) Peter Marquis-Kyle

The instruction manuals are the "reference" version, "planecraft" is a tutorial. BugBear
