I have sharpened the iron, and I have a mahogany replace tote and knob,
purchased from Mike Taylor, that I plan to use until I have to time to work
on the tote and knob (which are both in pretty sad shape).

On another note, why did stanley choose to varnish the rosewood in their
planes? I have been playing guitars with unfinished rosewood fingerboards
for twenty-five years without any problems. Heck, my $2,500 PRS electric
guitar has an unfinished Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard. I prefer the feel
of unfinished rosewood.
