Hi All,

The indications that EUBs (Electric Upright Bass) are fairly common and
well known trigger a point of curiosity. Is this a fairly recent
development? About 10 years ago, my son was a guitar player in a fairly
successful alternative rock group (since disbanded, but then had
successful albums, toured US and Europe, etc.) and pretty deeply into
music. I happened to see a jazz group on PBS which had a guy playing
what appeared to be a standard "prone" bass guitar, but he was holding
and plucking it like an upright acoustic one. I told my son about this
and he'd never seen or heard of such a thing. Following some of the
links cited here indicates that todays EUBs are more specialized than
that, but I'd think my son would have known about them if they'd been
very common at that time.

Best Wishes,
Bob
