I use mine (a type 18) extensively; it's my favorite smoother (quickly being
overtaken by my L-N #3).

I bought it in very rough but sound shape from a neighbor of my parents for
$10. It had spent at least a decade in a suburban Chicago garage, and really
looked it. I had to buy it a brass adjusting knob, cleaned it up, refinished
the knob and tote with paddylac, and put in a L-N iron. Tuned it up and it
works great.
