I've seen this happen.  It isn't pretty.  They go spastic.  Especially 
motorcycle engineers.  They end up in Zen.

A few drops of vinegar, allowed to soak for a while, will loosen a bit of 
rust.  Maybe enough, especially when combined with heating and 
cooling with the soldering iron.
