79454 Joseph Neustein jneustein@p... 2000‑06‑07 Dieterich Post Co.
I just picked up a hand sighting level in a leather case. The level is
marked Dieterich Post Co. Does anyone know anything about this company? [I
bought it partly because it's cool and partly because Dieterich is my wife's
maiden name.]

Hi Joe,

It's Frederick Post Co., Chicago, Ill., established 1921 and bought
out by Teledyne about 1970. They sold drafting, slide rules, surveyors
supplies, much like Aloe, Dietzgen, Keuffel & Esser, etc.

Hope this helps,

Joe N. asked about this company and Dan W. suggested it was probably the
Frederick Post Co. of Chicago. I suspect Dan's right, but am sorry that
destroys part of the attraction of Joe's tool. But I do think Dan was
wrong about the Post Co. being established in 1921. The DAT shows them
starting in1889 and lasting until1972. It's quite possible they were
incorporated in 1921; while compiling the DAT, I ran into several cases
where the Est. and Inc. dates got mixed up.

Best,
Bob

Who was acquired by Phomat Corporation, who changed their name to
Post & Company, who was acquired by Azon Corporation (who also acquired K&E
some years back). Part of the Post & Company business was absorbed into
Azon, while the remaining portion became Media Design Corporation, a wholly
owned subsidiary of Azon, which serves the OEM and VAR market. And that's
way more than you cared to know.
