No I don't think osage is edible. They are rock hard and don't smell to good. But I was also thinking about persimmon. It is a member of the genus Diospyros. The genus contains about 500 species many of which produce the fruit called persimmon in English. About 12 species produce black heart wood and are called ebony. D. kaki is the Japanese persimmon which is widely planted in the southern US but it dosen't produce black wood. It is great for woodworking. I can't remember about the fruit structure. It being 30 years since I ate one. I think it has several seeds. I can't think of a wood with berry like fruit. Ken | |||
