Hi Folks, Jak, a friend and one of my local tool sellers here in Hobart is looking to buy a Japanese saw as a birthday present for his son-in-law who has expressed a desire to own and use one. 3 questions as far as I can see. The s-i-l is doing a lot of work fitting out boats, so it seems a fairly fine crosscut is what is needed: something suitable for trim and slightly heavier work, but neither of us knows anything about these saws, so we are open to advice. I can't see him doing heavy ripping or framing work, more bench and cabinet scale work. S-I-L has no previous experience with Japanese saws that we know of, so would he be better with a replaceable, or a re-sharpenable blade? Again advice would be appreciated. Any suggestions as to brands, and reliable mail order sources? Jak has a month to sort this out, order the saw and get it mailed to Hobart. Private replies please, as this isn't really an old tools project. Thanks, Tony B Hobart, Tasmania | |||
