Hi Shannon

Many old woodies were designed to held tilted off vertical when used.  The
angle at which they were tilted was called their "spring" and a plane built
for use like this was said to be "sprung".

(I've heard at least a half-dozen good, sensible reasons as to why planes
were made like this --it's a regular, recurring topic of discussion on the
Porch-- but I won't bother you with that now.  ;-)
