73709 "Pasion" <pandppasion@e...> Jan-21-2000 bio (longish)

Assembled Galooterati,

I wanted to take an opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Pat
Pasion and I have been lurking for quite some time, and have decided to come
out from around the corner and join in on the bottom stair of the porch.

I have been woodworking off and on since highschool. During college, I
thought Nahm was the end all and be all of how to make furniture. So I
scraped together what little money I had and bought some poor quality tailed
apprentices, not knowing any better. I didn't really enjoy the performance,
the noise, the dust and the thought that with a little carelessness, I could
lose some body parts very quickly.

Within the last few years, I upgraded my *l*ctric tools to better quality
ones. But, I was still yearning to get rid of the noise and the dust. I
started watching St. Roy on PBS (multiple channels, multiple times a week)
and realized that there was a quieter, more tactile way to do things. I saw
Roy's cool tools, and found myself wanting to get some. Around that time, I
moved into my Grandfather's old house in Seattle. In the garage were some
old saws, chisels, and a Yankee push drill. I searched around to find out
more about these things and found the porch. Since then it has been a quick
slide down the slope. I got a few planes, some new and some old. I got
some chisels, some new and some old. I got some more saws and am learning
how to sharpen them.

So far, I have only made a sofa table entirely by hand. But, considering it
was my first attempt, it went very well. I am also learning how to create a
personal web page so I can post pics.

Most of my tools are either gifts or garage/estate sale finds. I try to
limit my old tool purchases to tools I "need" but I always seem to need more
tools.

Now that I have delurked, I will try to stay involved. I have learned tons
from the collective wisdom of the porch, and expect to be asking questions
very soon to learn even more (especially on tuning up old tools).

Thanks for reading for so long.

Pat Pasion

I think this may find its way into my .sig file. Says everything you need
to say about the Porch.

   Precisely.

And if you are married, don't forget to mention that to
SWMBO, especially when beginning any new project for her.
