   and stuff
Most Gentle and Loquacious Ones,

There's really only one significant problem with the friendly, informal
atmosphere we love and cherish on the porch. It invites blatantly
off-topic posts, and meandering chit-chat, that while fun for many, is
clearly off the charter.

Another smaller problem, and though I love them dearly as devoted
subscribers, are those who would object to the off-topic traffic
on-list, thus doubling the non-oldtools content.
In other words, "he hit me back first!" doesn't work either.

1: Remember, if you have ANY problem with a post to the list, you are to
contact me or Ken DIRECTLY. We have a pretty good track record of
quashing off-topic stuff quickly.

Kenneth Stagg <kistagg@h...>

2: If you begin a post with: I hate to waste bandwidth, but... then you
shouldn't be posting it! If you need an email address, both Ken and I
HAVE THEM ALL. Just ask. If you have any kind of computer question, ASK
KEN OR ME! We're both accomplished computer professionals, and if we
don't know the answer, we are guaranteed to know someone who does.

So, as hard as it is to believe, I really don't mind personal notes
off-list, of just about any inquiry, including, "Paddy, is shellac a
good finish for restoring an old tote?" The answer is yes, of course.

Please be considerate of your fellow list members. You are welcome,
encouraged even, to be funny, whimsical, long-winded, meandering,
thoughtful, thrifty, reverant, brave, cheerful, obedient, kind and
trustworthy, but make a genuine effort to stay on topic.
