I suspect that this is an ordinary Whitworth thread.

If you need to shorten an existing machine screw, run a nut up to the
head before gripping the unwanted part in the vice. Slightly dome the
cut surface. When the nut is removed, the burr will be removed as it
goes, and you have a screw that should enter the hole without the
difficulty you can sometimes get in this situation.
