I've actually used them in a brace - from as small as 3/4" to as large as
2.5". They require some muscle, and need to be good and sharp, but they work
fine. You need to apply a little extra push on the brace to keep them
cutting, and expect them to go fairly slowly, but they can leave nice smooth
sided and bottomed holes...
