   Galoots 'o mine,
I'm in love!
Just got an Orr and Lockett saw. It's got about a panel saw sized
handle and the blade is only 12" long. The etching is elaborate. The
whole package is tiny. You know how I love little.
So, where have these been all my life? How many more are out there?
How far back do they go? Are they common?
Erv, are they in the book? Since I haven't really "collected" saws
before (just a nice stable of users) I've been dragging my feet a
little, but I'm done for now.
   yours, Scott

Chicago Ill, 1872 - 1916 Hardware dealers who marked tools with their
name.

>From my Dictionary Of Americal Toolmakers (which just arrived 15 minutes
ago. This book is great!! although I'm curious why the subtitle says a
listing of makers in Canada and US who worked before 1900. It seems
there are listings for tool makers after 1900 too. A great reference
book.

John.

Scott: Orr & Lockett was a Hardware Company (Chicago, IL) that sold
other maker's saws. They were in operation 1872-1916 and sold saws by
Disston & Sons, Montague-Woodrough, Woodrough & McParlin and
Wheeler-Madden-Clemson.
No, I didn't have O & L in my "book"--their name etc was picked up
during the publishing phase. I'll add it to a revision in the years
ahead.
