Thank you so much for that message. I intend to show it to The
Captain this afternoon as evidence that I'm not so far gone as she
thinks I am.

Actually, I have a method of tool acquistion that has served me
very well. First, I determine that I have a 'need' for a particular tool,
usually kindled by some comment on this list. This is the easy
part. Then I enter a self-imposed cooling off period, typically about
a month. Next, assuming I still feel this need (which is usually
white hot after 'cooling' for a month), I build a place for it in my tool
cabinet. Only then do I actually look to acquire.

This method tends to keep impulse purchases to a minimum. But
once I've actually decided to buy, and I build a home for the tool,
the urge to acquire is completely overwhelming. The shop
becomes incomplete without it.

It helps to develop a sanguine temperament.

I would like to thank Patrick Leach for his example of the wealth of
selection as opposed to the wealth of accumulation, as
demonstrated by the Inner Sanctum.

-Bob Key - which I'm building a nice sawtill, ain't I?
