I think Hoadley's book has this info.

I have seen it in at least two articles of the major WW mags. Unfortunately
I remember not when or where. It depends on what the state of the wood is
when he puts it down. I think if he leaves 1/4 on both sides from the wall
and covers with a 3/4 molding he should be OK
