68327 bugbear@c... Sep-21-1999 UK source of SS supplies?

I've rang round the UK (via Good Ol' yellow pages).
I cannot locate abrasives finer than 1500. In fact I only
got 1500 recently. Until then I was stuck at 1200.
Now going to 1500 has made a big difference, and encouraged me
to delve further into SS technology. (I've always been a
india-slate-arkansas-strop kind of guy).

So does ANYONE know of a mail-order source of SS supplies
(i.e. abrasives finer than 1200) in the UK?

Or retails outlets in Norfolk/Suffolk. But I think mail-order
is favourite.

Bugbear,
My experience has been that 3M SiC wet dry paper works the best. Bought mine
at an auto paint store. 3M claims world
wide distribution. Looks like you can order from their website (although I
haven't tried this). Contact info on their
site is:

Phone: 1-800-742-9546 or 1-800-364-3577 in the U.S.A.
651-737-6501 outside the U.S.A.
Fax: 1-800-852-4668 in the U.S.A.; 651-737-7117 outside the U.S.A.
Internet website: http://www.3M.com/market/industrial/abrasives

I haven't tried this place, although I believe Richard Wilson has had some
dealings with them in the past: CSM Just Abrasives were offering a selection
box (25 sheets) of SC paper of 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit paper for £14.95.
Their contact details are: 95-6 Lewes Rd., Brighton, East Sussex, BN2 3QA.
Tel. 01273 600434. Fax 01273 600937. Postage is £1.95 and the order ref. for
this item is: 25-SH-MFWSF-WS-M.

howzat?

PS. Any of you Preston junkies checked out that shoulder plane on Tony
Murland's website?

Cheers,
Cillian McBride
