68240 "Bernie Hunt" <bernie@h...> Sep-19-1999 What is it?

I found an old chisel in my mother-in-law's basement. It's circa
1960-1970. It is about 5/8" wide and shaped like a normal chisel, but
about 1/2" from the end there is a 90 deg bend. I guess you could work
around corners, hahahaha. Is this a "production" chisel or a home
modified one? If it is production, where would you use it?

Sorry for what may be a really simple question, but I have to learn
   somewhere.

   Bernie

I think what you have may be called a Drawer-lock chisel, used to get into
tight spots like a drawer lid.Is taped with a mallet.I've seen a few and in
the new book,Classic Hand tools they show one being used.By the way this is
a great book ,if you don't have it you should get it ....Todd

Looks like a BURMINGHAM,CONN. PLANE MFG. Co. 22" jointer, for sure.
We practically trip over them here in NE USA. I hear MofA has a couple he
uses for doorstops. I find mine just right for bracing the barn door
closed.
                Tom Holloway,
pullin' yer laig, and wondering what PTAMPIA says about these things.

Ayup. I got a couple of them I welded together as a ramp for the wheelbarrow.
Now that I know what they are, I'll sell the ones I've been using as a border
for the flower garden.
