Hey, I turned over the blade and no problem!

Just kidding.

I was hoping someone on the list had a 2509 and could post the
mouth size. This plane is in very good shape, probably because
it does not work as is. The fit between the removable piece and
the body is very good: it does not look like the plane has been
damaged, resulting in a closing of the mouth.

There appear to be two ways to correct the problem: a shim or
filing the front of the mouth.

I have some sheet stainless steel that is about the right
thickness for a shim. Shaped like the removable bullnose, it
could provide the needed mouth opening.

Or, since the bullnose is removable, it would be easy to file
the bottom to get the needed clearance. The pictures of bullnose
rabbets in Barlow show a small concave section there. It could
well be that the final tuning step was missed on this plane.

So, a highly visible shim or a probably unnoticable tuning of
the mouth?
