56841 STJones911@a... Feb-01-1999 WTB: Stanley screwdrivers, small new tool gloat

GGs,

On tool-rustling a break from HGIII, I acquired a Stanley #64
screwdriver and was smitten. Another slide looms. Now I'm
thinking about assembling a set of good users. Anyone on the
porch got any you'd like to unload?

I bought a nearly unused Record 778(?) at an auction for $15.
This is their version of the Stanley #78 with two arms for the
fence and a screw adjustment for the iron. From my limited
experience, both are improvements, especially the adjuster.
The lever on the Stanley leaves me room for only two fingers
inside the handle. I tend to ignore shiny blue stuff at auctions,
but I suppose the photo of Mike Dunbar profiling the lid on his
six board chest with one of these was still dancing in my head.

I met the seller's woodworking teacher at the auction. He
runs a cabinet shop/lumber yard and does restorations of old
furniture using period tools. He's also restoring an old house
but I won't mention what kind of tools he uses there. A couple
of us are going to go visit his shop sometime; ought to be
interesting.
