Hi Joe & non-normite Galoots !

Joe was puzzled by a nearly incomprehensible drillie twisty thingie:

Which in my GP cat. 16 on page 325 is:

" ... in every way a Universal Corner Brace (its actual name - ed.).
The steadying Handle attached to the knurled sleeve can be used in
any one of eight positions shown in the illustration. The Crank
Handle is adjustable to two different lengths."

It's No. 215, patented May 9, 1905; and it cost five bucks in 1926.

Five dollars at 5% compound interest from 1926 to now is $178 (by
muscle-powered calculator, ca. 1955); if you paid anything less
you got a bargain.

The extra handle is for resisting the torque reaction from the main
handle and bit. I guess the designer had no more idea how to hold
the durn thing than I do sitting here - hence the multiple positions.
One of em's bound to work; and then there're the lefties and the
inconveniently oriented corners ...

Best regards,
George Langford
