55410 tom thornton <tomthornton@n...> Jan-02-1999 Vertical post plane

I was reading Walters and I noted a comment about Stanleys'
'vertical post' planes ( on pg 351).

I recently acquired a really rusted model
and on derusting found it has vertical posts.

 Its 9 1/4 long by 2 1/4 wide
Cutter is 1 3/8 wide as is chip breaker. Badly corroded
Lever cap has no spring, has keyhole not kidney.
Lever cap nut threads fit 24 to inch gauge ( so assume its not old)
 Front knob 2 inches high
Tote intact but sure not rose wood.
 Adjusting knob is steel .
Has two posts which were cast but tops not ground
so the cutter bedding had to be not so good.
-Cutter stamped "Made in USA"
"Made In USA' cast in bed behind adjusting knob. -

While I think its just a unusual off brand
as long as the wisdom of the porch is available
I think I'd better ask.
