(* marks items that are new since my last list.) Kevin Haney 15664 Kelbaugh Rd. Thurmont, MD 21788 (301) 271-5023 (evenings and weekends) E-mail: Kevin_Haney@n... ------------------------------------ FOR SALE: SAWS: *1. Disston D-115, $38 The one with the carved rosewood handle (older style with Philada medallion). Beautiful wood with a chipped upper horn. 26" 8 pt. blade has been electrozapped and there is no etching. Can be sharpened up if you dare use thi s rare saw. *2. Disston D-8, $18 Nice old crosscut with a comfy handle with great patina and no chips. 26" 8 pt . crosscut blade has been jointed and is ready for sharpening (I was practicing, OK!). Partial blade etching is present. 3. George Bishop #8 thumbhole rip saw, $42 26" 5 pt. ripper with a shiny blade with spots of staining (the tops of three teeth are gone). Strong Bishop etching with griffin trademark. Has a light colored applewood handle that's in great shape with most of the original finish . Sharpened by Tom Law and ready to rip! 4. Combination saw, $28 Saw with rule etching on top of blade and straight handle edge that allows you to use it as a square. Beech handle has four brass nuts and the top horn is chipped. Full width blade is 26" 8 pt. crosscut with areas of pitting. Manufacturer etching almost visible, but can't quite make it out. 5. Rare, double-edged table saw, $22 Old saw with beech handle with three split nuts (which would make the saw circa 1870 or earlier) and two small unobtrusive hang holes. 19 1/2" blade is filed 9 pts. on one side and 12 pts. on the other, both crosscut. Etching faint so I can't make out the name. Pic available upon request. 6. Saw hammer and setter, $22 Disston and Simmonds both made these interesting little hammer/setter combos. This one is unmarked, with a beech handle that is a little rough on the end. Pic available upon request. 7. Disston Triumph saw set, $14 7" size for handsaws. In good operating condition with all parts present, no rust, and 60% japanning. Pic available upon request. PLANES: *8. Stanley #12 1/2 scraper plane, $95 Sweetheart model in great shape! Very good rosewood handle, excellent full thickness original sole (for that sensitive touch ;-), and about 98% japanning on body. No rust. Sweetheart mark on brass blade clamp screw. It has what looks to be a later Stanley replacement blade that has been little used. A pretty plane! *9. Stanley #9 1/2 block plane, $20 Older plane in fully functional condition. Has 1897 patent date on lever cap, 85% japanning, and the SR&L semicircular logo on the blade. *10. Stanley #9 1/2 block plane, $20 Early Sweetheart model that has been repainted. A great user. 11. Sargent handled smooth plane, $24 This beech smooth plane has one of those knob handles on the back for a better grip. The wood has a great dark patina and you can see exactly where some former craftsman put his fingers during years of service (I have left the plane uncleaned). This plane still has plenty of service left in it with a strike button on the back, a good double Sargent blade, and a solid old mouth patch on the plane bottom. 12. Stanley #80 cabinet scraper new in box, $26 Mint scraper in box with original blade, rubber blade protector, and the original instructions. Only apology is that it was made in England (which doesn't make it any less useful, by the way). SPOKESHAVES: *13. Bailey #3 adjustable mouth spokeshave, $48 Earliest precursor to the Stanley #53, has "Bailey's Patent, July 13, 58" on th e brass cap screw and "Bailey's Patent" on the back of the body. Plenty of blade left (blade is unmarked). Both springs present but appear frozen. No japannin g left, but what do you expect after almost 150 years! *14 Stanley #65 chamfer spokeshave, $80 Early model with very little japanning left, but with a newly sharpened blade that is ready to go. Note: I will sell all 5 Stearns spokeshaves listed below (#14-17) as a set for $190, if someone wants them before any individual shaves are sold. An instant spokeshave collection! *14. Stearns #13 Universal spokeshave, $95 All original parts in great condition! About 90% japanning and no pitting on the sole. Beautiful brass cap with name and patent date. 15. Set of Stearns spokeshaves, $80/pair, or $45 each This is a set of the No. 7 and 8 Stearn's spokeshaves, the equivalent of the Stanley #53 and 54. These shaves have the adjustable decorative cap and throat mechanism. The straight handled No. 7 has 70% japanning and the raised handled No. 8 has 60%. Both have plenty of blade left. 16. Stearns #2 double bladed spokeshave, $28 Like the Stanley #60, this shave is unmarked but is unmistakably a Stearns, wit h straight and concave blades. In great shape with 98% japanning. *17. Stearns #1 spokeshave, $12 Body has 65% japanning but blade is cracked. 18. Fancy Preston spokeshave, $55 Shave has 95% japanning and "Prestons Patent" on open handles. Has original Preston trademark blade and depth adjuster. What makes this shave special is that it also has a lateral adjuster, one of the few spokeshaves to have this capability. A rare, pretty, and mechanically interesting shave! 19. Stanley #65 chamfer shave body, cap, and blade, $26 This is a later model shave that is missing the chamfer guides. Japanning is about 98%, but body has a small crack at the edge of the mouth. Blade with Sweetheart mark and cap iron in great shape. Can be used as a convex-soled spokeshave without the chamfer guides, like the #63. 20. Brass pattern maker's spokeshave, $20 Very pretty shave with flat bottom, no cap iron (never had one--blade secures with a screw), 1 5/8" blade made from a Disston saw, 8 1/2" long overall. RULES & GAUGES: *21. Stanley #85 1/2 panel gauge, $75 Rosewood gauge with beautiful heartwood/sapwood striping. Marked only with 187 3 patent date. Typical use dings but both wood and brass are in overall great shape. Missing the brass shim under thumbscrew, as is common with these gauges . DRILLING: *22. Reid archimedian drill/screwdriver, $42 In great shape with fine rosewood head and handle. 15 1/2" long with the 1882 patent date, the nickel plating is 98% present. Mechanism works very smoothly. No bit. Pic available upon request. 23. PowerKraft brace, $12 Ratcheting brace with 10" sweep made in England. Extremely clean condition in a very useful size. *24. Stearns #1 spokepointer, $16 Spokepointer with graduated adjustable depth stop. No rust and 95% japanning. Not a lot of blade left (about 3/16" in front of slots) but enough to use. HAMMERS: 25. Voight 1902 patent double-claw hammer, (reduced) $145 This hammer has the patent date cast into it and original hickory handle with great patina. There is a small nick on one of the upper claws, and two larger nicks on one of the lower claws, hence the low price. Pic available upon request. MISCELLANEOUS: 26. Folding miter box, $10 The 14" long Gem miter box made by the Alaskan Freezer Co. Three pieces of woo d hinged so that they fold up, with metal guides for 90 degrees and 45 degrees both ways. Has the locking pin that is often missing and the label. Great for the tool box. 27. Berylco putty knife, $10 Non-sparking putty knife, No. K-24. 6" long with beryllium/copper blade with etched logo in an unusual rounded shape. Wooden handle in very good condition. 28. Mountable heavy-duty bench vise, $22 Amer. Scale Co. of K.C. Mo. vise with 3" wide jaws and an anvil end. Mounted o n a two piece cherry base that permits it to be clamped in your shoulder bench vise. Good for those of you whose bench is too thick to accommodate a regular clamp-on type vise. Vise is heavy so postage may be a few bucks more than usual. WANTED TO BUY: Here are some items I'm looking for, if any of you happen across them and could be persuaded to part with them for a reasonable price. Disston brass-backed backsaws in the following sizes: 12", 16", 18", and other early or interesting Disston handsaws. Also looking for Disston catalogs . 4.
