Hmmm,

I've not participated in FMM as a buyer/seller/trader (but I do
occasionally browse some lists) and have only been on the list for about
9-10 months, but mom asked, so...

I can't say that I am fond of the idea.

Seems list traffic is plenty high as it is, and FS/WTB posts any time would
most likely result in me setting up a filter to trash them. Which is all
good and fine except that would also result in me (or anyone with such
filters) missing out on any followup discussions that Paddy mentioned,
which really seems to be what the list is about, and makes it so enjoyable.

Also I suspect the issues relating to newbie/Frequently Asked questions
showing up, would pale in comparison to WTB posts from new
members/woodworkers looking to get "tooled up".

For what its worth,

John O'Connor

It could be that traffic sometimes gets high because people run out of ideas
or things to say about toos, and then the 'me too' posts and off topic stuff
starts up.

A scattering of FS posts just might keep the juices flowing all month.

And besides, if it makes things easier on Ken and Paddy, I think we owe it to
them to give it a shot.....

Why don't we try this for a set period and re-evaluate at the end of
it?

I would also hope that we continue only allowing active participants
in the list to post FS notices.

The first moday in the month isn't great for me because
the only local flea market with old tools is on the first
saturday of the month. Thus, if I spend any cash on
saturday, there is none left for FMM.

I think more sellers should be encouraged to maintain
web pages containing their forsale lists. Thus a motivated
buyer could collect the URLs of the lists in their bookmarks,
and consult them as often as they read the Ken Starr report.

49629 "Karl W. Sanger" <sangerkw@m...> Sep-11-1998 new list rules was Re: My xx: didn't make it

I cast one vote for sale lists anytime ---- if there is a limit to
how many one vendor can do per month! I don't want to see some guy sending
a list every 12 hours!! (And I don't like Galoots posting non-Galoots
lists for them as has happened recently!
I would like to see something that is akin to the excitement on
both sides of the sales perspective like FMM. So, how about a limited FMM
or LMM that limits to 10 items maximum on that day.
In short maybe one post per month of any amount of items - anytime
of the month - and one post of 10 items max on FMM, LMM, MMM or whatever
single date?

I vote yes to these or similiar ideas.

Not all folks selling have, or will have a web page. I do not, and when
and if I do, I'm not likely to use it to sell tools. But I will have a
tool or two for sale now and again.

Not everyone selling is a big time dealer.

Why does a FS/WTB filter have to trash such posts? My filter is set up to
shunt FS/WTB messages into a separate mailbox from the rest of Oldtools
traffic (which goes into a mailbox of its own, separate from my regular
inbox), so I can browse through them independently of other discussions.

Tim
