47972 "Bruce Kantelis" <northst@g...> Aug-13-1998 MAKING KNIVES ETC.

Hello All!

A short note of thanks to the fellow oldtooler that put in a good word for
Jantz Supply. I just received an order from them containing 4 knive blades.
Great quality at great prices. Now to hack up some mahog handles (with a
little carving in the butt end of the handle, and make a few christmas
presents. Also am planning to put these pieces in matching presentation
boxes.

These folks also sell flat and round stock, A2 for example in plane blade
sizes, polishing compounds and other cool stuff.

Regards,
Bruce Kantelis

I want to echo Bruce's sentiments here. I, too, got the Jantz
catalog, and after much drooling, chose a few of the Russell Green
River knives as projects.

Making the knives is easy and fun, and very rewarding. These puppies
are quality high carbon steel, and a real joy to use in the kitchen.
I'm going to practice on a couple other "users" for my kitchen, then
make some sets for holiday presents as well. Also figured I'd make
fitted boxes for them, and maybe custom cutting boards to go with
them.

And, Jantz does have a handy etching system that starts at $119, I
think. Tho' I know Richard isn't on the list at the moment, maybe
he'll read this after holiday.

-Lorn (now, about how to finish those cutting boards. . .Please, God,
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
