Our local (calgary) govt surplus had an sem up for sale for a month or
two......It was totally old school. Connection cables as thick as your bicep,
thak 5 men and three boys to move. Read a lot of ‘lectrons used, and a fork lift
to move it and single car garage to house it.

But it’s not just the SEM that costs, it’s the costs of equipment for specimen
prep, the vacuum chamber, the metallic deposition the cost of the metallic
coatings... yadda yadda yadda.

I have a bit of background in microscopy, and it’s not somewhere I would want to
go unless I had a really  deeper wallet and a defined business plan to recover
costs.....and besides there just has to be new technology cheaper......

Or a high quality optical camera slow speed high density B&W film and a 
bellows
