256621 Erik Levin 2015‑10‑11 Micrometers and other precision measuring tools
I know I am not the only one on the porch (sipping a beverage right now, while
the cat watches through the window) with an assortment of precision tools that
are incomplete or unidentified. I haven't been able to find a good index to
identify, much less characterize, things like old Starrett mic's and calipers,
but it is quite possible that I am just missing something.

This came to the surface today, as I spent entirely too much time trying to find
key data about a Starrett 120 inside mic, in particular the nominal baseline
length when zeroed. It took me a good hour to positively ID the mic as a 120--
the pic in the catalog archived from Rose tool wasn't clear enough to be sure.
Not an unusual issue since many older instruments have nothing on them except
the manufacturer.
Am I missing a database somewhere? Or, as it would appear, has no one done for
precision measuring tools what has been done for Stanley planes? All I have
found is the Marks catalog on COEFS *** This message was sent from a convenience
