Last list of the summer. I have a good run of some quality and hard to
find molding planes as well as the strange, wonderful, and collectible
tools.

I'd really prefer a check for payment for all items. On items less than
$25 (not including shipping) no PayPal. On combined purchases totaling
over $25 then PayPal is okay. This is for the USA buyers only. The out
of country folks, PayPal will be accepted for all purchase, unless you
want to send me a US denominated money order, then that is fine. Sorry
for the inconvenience but I'm just trying to cut the costs down a bit here.

And remember........da more ya buy, the cheaper they fly!

First contact (that is e-mail, or phone) that says I want it get's it.
Oldtools terms, except on items and orders over $100, if I don't know
ya or haven't done business in the past (and my records good way back..)
then it's pre-pay. I do take PayPal (except as noted). Prices do not
include shipping. All items are shipped with Delivery Confirmation.
Insurance, unless it is a big order or a very fragile item is optional.
Just let me know. Also, I am shipping a lot more stuff via First
Class mail. There will be a small amount added to the shipping cover
the cost of the padded mailer. I don't get them for free.

Please put your name and address in the message. Saves time and email
traffic!

I have copies of all three of my released CD's available. Price is
$8.00 each plus $2.50 for one for First Class Mail shipping. Can be
combined with most items as far as shipping goes.

You can hear a selection of the songs from all of my CD's on my
Soundclick page.

Wooden Planes

N Spaulding McLean NY 1 1/4 Inch Complex Molding Plane. The cut is 1
1/4" wide (measured from the inside edge of the fence to the start of
the depth stop) and this weighs 1 lb 9 1/4 oz unboxed. Nathaniel
Spaulding was a plane maker who worked in McLean NY from 1825 until
1850. This is the B mark rated on "*" for rarity. This is in
reasonable condition for the age and was cleaned. The body has some
light scratches and wear. There is some chipping on the toe on top of
the depth stop and a little at the start of the depth stop. There are
some hammer dings on the top of the body and a few light ones on the
heel. There is exactly one long deceased worm hole as well. The sole
is good and the mouth is tight. The boxing has some roughness showing
on the outside but that's left over from when this was made. The
Butcher iron does have a spot of pitting down at the edge and a few
spots farther up but there is some clean steel to work with. I touched
up the edge a little but that might need a bit more work. These big
complex molders sure are getting few and far between. $35.00

Butler Philada Wood Complex Molding Plane. The cut is 1" wide (measured
from the inside edge of the fence to the start of the depth stop), and
this weighs 1 lb 1 3/4 oz unboxed. John Butler was a plane maker who
worked in Philadelphia PA from 1791 until 1830. This is the C mark
rated on "*" for rarity. This is also marked 6 on the heel, which means
this plane was for 6/8 or 3/4" stock. This is in reasonably good
condition for the age and was cleaned. The body has some dings and
wear. There are some thin checks on the toe and the heel has the usual
hammer dings and some light chips on the edges. The sole is good for
the most part but there is a chip out at the front of the mouth and some
dings on the edges. The mouth hasn't been opened but there is some wear
at the front. The iron is signed but I don't recognise the maker. The
cutting face has some light frosting and some dots and spots but there
is plenty of good steel left. I did clean off some sharp mushrooming
from the tang. The wedge is good. For a tool that is, at the very
least 185 years old and probably a lot older than that, well this one
sure ain't bad at all. $35.00

Israel O Beattie Middletown NY 1/2 Inch Match Tongue Molding Plane.
This weighs 15 3/4 oz unboxed. Israel O Beattie was a Middletown NY
hardware dealer in business from 1854 until 1872. This is the A mark
rated 2 "**" as to rarity. This in good condition and was lightly
cleaned. Note this is straight, any bending you see is because of
camera lens distortion, although why folks would think that I would sell
a bent plane is beyond me. The body is good other than a few light
dings and stains. The sole is good with no problems and the mouth is
tight. This may have been made for a special purpose as there is no
fence and outer edge of the depth stop area is slightly beveled. This
was possibly used for airtight case construction. The iron is clean on
the cutting face and there is lots to work with. That will need a
sharpening. The wedge is good as well other than a couple of scratches.
I have to say that this is a neat molding plane. $24.00

Reed Utica 3/16 Inch Fully Boxed Side Bead Molding Plane. This weighs
13 1/2 oz unboxed. Charles Reed was a Utica NY plane maker who worked
from 1843 until 1855. This is the A mark rated 2 "**" as to rarity.
This in good condition and was lightly cleaned. Note this is straight,
any bending you see is because of camera lens distortion, although why
folks would think that I would sell a bent plane is beyond me. The body
is good other than few stains and light dings. There are a couple of
light hammer marks on the heel but this guy certainly wasn't used much.
The full boxing on the sole is good and the mouth is tight. The W
Butcher iron is clean on the cutting face and there is lots to work
with. That will need a sharpening. The wedge has a little dinging on
the top. These 3/16" side beads are very hard to come by and one in
this condition and by a collectible maker like Reed is a real find. $22.00

Sargent No 623 7/8 Inch Nosing Plane. This weighs 1 lb 3 1/2 oz
unboxed. The Sargent molding planes were made by the Sandusky Tool Co,
the marks and wedges are identical. This in good condition and was
lightly cleaned. Note this is straight, any bending you see is because
of camera lens distortion, although why folks would think that I would
sell a bent plane is beyond me. The body is good other than a few
stains. There is a very thin check behind the mouth and one on the
heel. There are a couple of light hammer marks on the heel but this guy
certainly wasn't used much. The sole and the mouth are good. The
cutting face of the iron has some light frosting and some pinpoints of
light pitting but nothing that would stop me from using this guy. The
iron will need a sharpening. The edge is good other than a few light
dings. All in all this is a good looking plane. $22.00

Old Coachmakers Double Cut Rounding Over Plane or Shave. The body is 12
5/8" long, the blade is 7/8" wide, and this weighs 11 3/4 oz unboxed.
Not signed as to the maker. This is in decent condition and was
cleaned. The body and wedge are oak. The body has some dings and
stains. There are a pair of brass screws in the back along side of the
blade mortise but I think that they were put there when this was made
and not a repair. The plate is good. The screw heads there are worn
and I didn't have that off. The blade may be a replacement but it fits
the plane and has the right profile. That would need a sharpening. The
wedge has some chipping at the bottom edge but it does it's job. This
is what it is, but I sure haven't been seeing too many around. $25.00

Thos L Appleton Boston Mass 3/4 Inch Center Bead Molding Plane. This
weighs 1 lb 2 1/4 oz unboxed. Thomas L Appleton was a Boston Mass plane
maker who made planes under his own name from 1878 until 1895. This is
in good shape and was cleaned. Note this is straight, any bending you
see is because of camera lens distortion. The body is good other than a
few dings. The boxing on the sole has a few light dings. The sole is
good otherwise. The mouth has some chipping on the leading edge and
it's not super tight but if you have ever used one of these guys, you
will know that's not necessarily a bad thing. There are fence holes in
the body, a lot of times these were added by the maker so that a screw
arm plow plane fence could be used with this plane. I've seen it before
with other makers. The wedge has a little dinging on the top but it's
solid. The iron has a few light spots of patina but it's good for the
most part and there is plenty there to work with. I have to say that
these big center bead planes are few and far between, especially by
collectible maker like Appleton. $27.00

Stanley

Stanley SW No 921 Enclosed Ratchet 10 Inch Sweep Brace. This weighs 2
lbs 15 1/2 oz unboxed. This is in decent condition. The only cleaning
was to wax the grip and pad and oil the appropriate parts. There is
some plating loss on the chuck shell, the rear arm, and pad shell. The
chuck is good. The jaws have a little chipping at the tips but there
are good inside. The enclosed ratchet works well with just a hair of
play. The grip and pad have most of the original finish. They have a
few dings but nothing too bad and both works smoothly as well. This
ain't minty but it is a solid tool. $23.00

Stanley No 12 Type 1A 4 Inch Improved Try Square. Measuring 5 1/8"
overall in length, 3 7/16" high, and this weighs 4 1/2 oz unboxed.
Justus A. Traut of New Britain, CT was granted Pat. No. 151,254 on May
26, 1874 for the design of this tool. This was made by Stanley between
1874 and 1887. This is in reasonably good condition for the age and was
cleaned. Both sides of the blade have some light frosting and the one
has a few tiny spots of pitting but it sure ain't bad. The handle is
good as well other than some light pitting on the end. This has most of
the japanning as well. This guy is true according to the flip test.
These guys are sure getting few and far between in this kind of shape.

Early Stanley No 14 Type 1 6 Inch Adjustable Try Square. This weighs 5
1/4 oz unboxed. Justus A. Traut of New Britain, CT was granted Pat. No.
266,556 on Oct. 24, 1882 for the design of this tool. The company mark
is worn but the patent date can be read. This is in decent condition
and was cleaned. The blade has some light patina on both sides. The
rulings are readable. The handle is good for the most part and has most
of the original japanning. I had to shoot some penetrating oil into the
slot and there still is a little in there. The blade moves the full
distance and the locking screw works. This ain't pristine but Stanley
didn't make too many of these to start with. $32.00

Stanley No 49 Auger Bit Depth Gauge. This weighs 4 1/2 oz unboxed. This

Uncommon Stanley No 929 8 Inch Sweep Trade School Brace. This weighs 2
lbs 14 1/4 oz unboxed. This was made by Stanley between 1926 and 1934.
Some of these were marked Ford and I think that this one is but it's
very faint so don't run to the bank on just that. This is in decent
condition and was cleaned. There is some overall light patina. The
chuck and ratchet are good and were oiled. The alligator jaws are good
as well. The grip and pad are aluminium. The grip has S 2 stamped on
it. That has the usual light dings and wear that are found on aluminum
tools. The same goes for the pad. I did replace 2 of the screws that
hold the pad to the plate because they were missing but when you get as
old as this guy is, well you will be missing a few screws as well. This
ain't minty but I sure don't see too many around. $47.00

Stanley Rule & Level No 89 Sliding Clapboard Gage or Gauge. This weighs
7 1/2 oz unboxed. This is in reasonable condition and was cleaned.
There is some patina but that's to be expected with a tool that is at
the very least 95 years old and probably a whole lot older. There are a
few spots where the plating is worn down to the copper wash coat. The
blade has some spots of light pitting on both sides. The adjuster screw
works. The handle is curly maple and has some nice figure to it. There
are a few stains and dings on the handle but nothing too bad. The
handle pivot works and the screw does remove. This ain't perfect but
these guys sure ain't showing up very often. $24.00

North Bros Div of Stanley No 3600-9 Offset Ratchet Kit. This weighs 4
oz unboxed. All of the original 8 bits are present, as well as the
ratchet, the plastic case, and the original box. This is in decent
condition and was not cleaned. The ratchet has some light funky but
nothing too bad there. A few of the bits have some light rusting but
that could be cleaned off easily enough. The plastic case has some
staining but that is solid. The box has some wear to the lid and the
bottom has some character as well. But at least it's there. This ain't
crispy but let me tell you, these guys rarely show up as a complete set
like this one. $30.00

A H Reid 1882 No 2 Lightening Brace or Screwdriver. Measuring 12 3/16"
when closed (not including the blade), 21 1/8" when extended, and this
weighs 11 oz unboxed. Alban H. Reid of Philadelphia, PA was granted
Pat. No. 268,938 on Dec. 12, 1882 for the design of this tool. What is
unique, is that this has an early Yankee style chuck and blade. You
turn the collar 1/4 round to release the blade. I've never seen another
one of these like this and IF it was a user refit, they did a good job
of it. Overall this is in decent condition and was cleaned. The blade
has some patina. The chuck is good and the lower ring rotates. The
shaft has some dings and wear to the plating but they weren't overly
generous in that department to start with on these guys. The handle has
some light wear and stains. There are some dings and chipping on the
end. These No 2 Reid's aren't all that common to start with and well
this one is a real find. $38.00

Very Uncommon M Brown & Co Birmingham NY Bone or Hack Saw. Measuring
14" overall, the blade is 7 3/4" long across the edge, and this weighs
12 oz unboxed. M Brown is listed as a saw maker in the DATM but no
other information is available. This is in decent condition and was
cleaned. The frame looks to be wrought iron, the graining is visible.
That has some light patina and some dings on the top. The blade does
have a small crack in the center. The front pin was replaced with a
nail at some point, the back pin is original. They both remove but
require some encouragement. The blade tensioner plate has some pitting
but it moves and the screw works. The handle is black walnut. That is
pinned to the frame but it does wiggle a little and someone (not me!)
put some pieces of wood down inside to try and tighten it. The handle
has some dings, wear, and stains. This ain't pristine but from what
I've found, these guys are few and far between. $38.00

Measuring 4 15/16" long and this weighs 1 1/2 oz unboxed. Not signed as
to the maker. This is in good shape for the age and use and was
cleaned. There are some scuff marks on the middle of the body left over
from when this made. The point is good. The leather strap looks to be
the original one. That has some checks but it feels solid enough. I
did hit that with yea olde Oil of Neatsfoot. I have to say that I ain't
never seen of of these guys like this before. $16.00

in the handle, and this weighs 1 1/2 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the
maker. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. Originally this
was born with 4 blades but one broke off a while back. The blades all
have some light frosting and pitting on the arms. I did shoot a little
bit of yea olde oil of penetration down in the joint, The brass handle
has some dings and stains but it's solid. This ain't perfect but these

Wiet-Goethe Co Combination Caliper & Protractor. The caliper is 4 7/16"

Sacramento, CA was granted Pat. No. 785,245 on Mar. 21, 1905 for the
design of this tool which was made by the Wiet-Goethe Co. This is in
decent condition and was cleaned. There is some light patina overall.
The caliper rule is good and all the rulings are readable. That had
been oiled and there is a little reside in the body. The protractor
head is good for the most part. That is missing the small nut that is
used to move the head. That was also oiled by someone. The indexing on
the protractor is good. The mitre gauge or screw pitch arm has some
light stuff as well. This ain't pristine but I sure ain't seen too many
of these guys around. $20.00

and this weighs 5 1/4 oz unboxed. The only mark is Stainless Steel on
the knife blade. This is in good condition and was not cleaned. The
only note is that there is some light scuffing on the knife blade from
being sharpened. All the rest of the tools are clean and good. The
leather case is good other than a little wear but it's solid. There is
a little staining on the clasp. Marked on the back of the case is Tokyo

Pat. No. 377,867, and the Oct. 26, 1886 date on the nut, Pat. No.
351,474. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. There is some
light patina on the legs and some crusty inside where I couldn't get to
clean. The spring and tips are good. The nut does turn okay but the
quick release doesn't work, I soaked it with some penetrating oil and it
may loosen up, but I can't say for sure. Stuff happens with tools that
at the least 112 years old. I have to say that these guys are sure

There is a little patina but nothing too bad. The hooks are good. The
notches are good as well and the indexing on the beam arm is readable.

reasonably good condition and was cleaned. There is a little patina but
nothing too bad. The one tip has a slight bend to it and the other one
is a little shorter. The 5 finger (3+2) was used on the better quality
tools. That is good and holds position. I gotta say that these guys

hand forged from an old file. This is in decent condition and was
lightly cleaned. There is the usual patina for a tool of this age. The
blade has a few small spots of pitting. The iron ferrule has a few
spots of brass on it. The handle looks to be oak and has some nice
figure to it. There is some chipping off the end on both sides and some

edge to the top of the handle, the blade is 2 9/16" long, 3/4" wide
across the outside, this is 9" overall, and this weighs 3 1/2 oz

business from 1787 until 1901. The blade of this is the 18th Century
style of gouges but having the Cast Steel mark places this around 1800
or so. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. Inside the sweep
there is some light pitting. The back has some deeper spots. The
handle is hand carved oak. Not original but it sure is old. That has

15/16" overall, the blade is 3 1/16" long, and this weighs 13 1/2 oz
unboxed. This is in used but good condition and was lightly cleaned.
The back is good other than some staining and dings. The edge isn't too
bad but it could stand a touchup. The front and handle area have a few
stained spots as well. I did clean off a little bit of sharp
mushrooming from the striking end. That has some dings but it's good to
go. This ain't perfect but it sure ain't bad either. $17.00

Henry Taylor Acorn Brand 1/8 Inch No 16 Sweep Bent Gouge Carving Tool.
Measuring 8 1/16" long, the blade is 4 5/16" long, 1/8" wide across the
inside of the sweep, and this weighs 1 1/4 oz unboxed. The sweep mark
is was double stamped 15 and 16 but according to my chart it's a 16.
This is in good shape and was lightly cleaned. Inside the sweep is
clean. The rest of the blade is good. That was never finished off all
pretty like to start with. The handle is good other than a few bits of
paint down in the grain. This is a top quality carving tool. $21.00

Buck Bros 1/4 Inch No 26 Sweep Bent Spoon Carving Tool Gouge. Measuring
8 9/16" long, 1/4" wide across the inside the sweep, the sweep looks to
be a No. 26 (5), and this weighs 1 1/2 oz unboxed. This is in good
shape and was lightly cleaned. Inside the sweep is clean other than a
little staining. The handle is the original one. That has some wear to
the finish and the copper coat on the ferrule but it's good overall.
These guys are sure getting few and far between, at least around here.

used but good shape and was lightly cleaned. Inside the sweep is clean
other than a few small stained spots. The edge is good. The handle is
the original one. That is good other than some wear to the finish up by
the ferrule. The copper is a little worn on the ferrule as well. This

C E Jennings 1/4 Inch Bevel Edge Firmer or Paring Chisel. Measuring 8
5/16" from the edge to the end of the socket, the blade is 6 1/16" long,
this is 12 13/16" overall, and this weighs 5 oz unboxed. C E Jennings
was a New York based edge tool and auger maker in business from 1878
until 1923. This is in reasonably good shape and was cleaned. The back
has a few spots of very light pitting right at the edge but after than
it's good other than some staining. The rest of the blade has some
stained spots but nothing too bad. I did rough in a new edge as someone
had rounded this over for use with a lathe. That will need some work.
The socket is good and was never hit. The handle is good, but I can't
say if it's the original one or not. I did not have it off of the tool.
This ain't pristine but it sure ain't bad either. $22.00

is 12 13/16" overall (straight across), and this weighs 4 1/2 oz
unboxed. This is in good condition and was lightly cleaned. The back
is good other than some very light stained spots. Inside the sweep,
there is more of the same. The London Pattern handle has the original
finish. There are a few tiny dings and stains but nothing worth kicking
the cat over. These guys are sure getting few and far between, at least

James Swan User Crafted 1/8 Inch Tanged Paring Chisel. Measuring 3 7/8"
from the edge to the top of the handle, the blade is 3 1/4" long, 1/8"
wide at the edge tapering up to 3/16", this is 9 3/8" overall, and this
weighs 1 3/4 oz unboxed. Somebody took a 3/16" tanged firmer and ground
down the end to make this into a narrow paring chisel. It's not a
perfect job but I have seen worse. This is in decent condition and was
cleaned. The back is good other than some light pitting right at the
edge but that's easy enough to deal with on a blade of this width. The
rest of the blade has some light frosting. The handle is oak. That is
good other than a recent chip off the end and a small hole of unknown
origin on the one side. The end doesn't show any strike marks so this
guy was made for pushing rather than pounding (keep that in mind when
reaching for the 3 lb sledge hammer!) This is what it is, but a chisel
like this does have it's uses. $14.00

reasonably good shape and was cleaned. The blade, which isn't signed,
has some staining and a few light spots of patina but nothing too bad.
NOTE" This is NOT HSS, and contrary to popular opinion, the turning
world got along quite fine with just regular steel for several hundred
or so years. Look it up. The handle is signed and looks to be maple.
That has a number stamped on the one side, a few stains and dings, but
it's solid and the blade is in tight. This ain't minty but it is a

dressed the edge down a touch. The back of the bend has some light
pitting. The inside of the blade has some light patina as well. The
handle is good other than some dings on the end. This ain't perfect but

the maker. This is in good shape, I cleaned up the tang and shaft a
little and oiled this. The chuck has some light patina but has most of
the plating. The jaws are good and move smoothly. There is some
roughness on the shaft and the tang has some light dings, but there is
plenty there to grab with the brace chuck. This ain't minty but this
size doesn't show up too often, at least around here. $17.00

screws work and were oiled. One of the screws on the underside that
holds the blade doesn't come all the way out but it does tighten okay.

it's usable. The striking button has a little mushrooming around the
edge but there are no cracks that I can see. This one ain't gonna win

decent shape and was cleaned. There is some wear to the finish. The
blade does have some overall pitting. All the screws work and the tang
which doubles as a depth stop moves. The tang has some spots of light

This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned. There is the
odd spot of that and this but nothing too bad. Someone filed an X on
the one side of the joint and a couple of lines on the back for
identification purposes. The tips are good. The locking screw and fine

head pivot works. The handle originally finished with red vanish but
that was long gone by the time it got here. The handle is good. There

this is straight, any bending you see is because of camera lens
distortion. The rule has some spots of light staining and a light patch
at the far end of the slotted side. All the rulings are readable. The
finish on both heads is good as are the machined surfaces. The level
vial on the square head is good and even the scribe is present. Both

maker. The other arm is partially marked Cast Steel. This is in decent
condition and was cleaned. There is some overall patina and wear. The
jaws have some scuff marks on the top and the one is a hair higher than
the other one. The cross hatching on the faces is work. The arms have
some marks from being clamped in a larger vise but that's how you use

There really ain't a lot to fuss about patina wise. The jaws have a
little wear to the edges and certainly aren't shaving sharp but all
things being equal in a hand grenade catching contest, well they sure
