254829 William Ghio <bghio@m...> 2015‑05‑23 Saw Vise, Floor Standing
Yesterday SWMBO and I took in some antique shops. In one I found a "saw display
stand." It looked at first glance like a tall sawhorse w/ a slot to hold the
saw. It was actually a two piece top that was hinged at its base so that as you
spread the legs apart, it gripped the saw - a saw vise that put the saw at
filing height. Of course, such saw vises have been discussed before, but I don't
ever remember one for a misery whip.

At $110, even tho it came complete w/ saw, I left it.

Bill,
Display stand?! Have we come so far from our roots that people don't realize
saws have to be filed? Or is it that they can't grasp the idea of filing without
a machine?
Really, why would a "display" hold the saw upside down? The jaws obscure the
etch! :)

My guess, based on my experience with jun ... er... "antiques" dealers, is that
their attention is on the saw. If you asked them if they'd take $20 for that
"crappy wood thing" they might just go for it.
