Casual visit to a local flea turned up a straight and merely discolored hand pruning saw with what appears to be a European beech handle and a medallion which reads: BUSHMAN Edsbyn Industri AB Edsbyn Sweden It's hard to describe why, but somehow I knew it was a good saw even before I picked it up. It has a horn-less tote designed for a gloved hand. The extra- thick saw plate is sway-backed. The teeth are a design I've never seen before. The pattern has round-bottom gullets with four teeth between. The teeth are canted away from the center of each group - the filing is uber-complex, with various fleam angles on various faces, but the pattern repeats between these groups of four teeth. Looking closely, it appears that it needs to be sharpened, as the points are a bit dull. _And yet it cuts aggressively into a growing Mulberry, biting deeply with each stroke._ Mulberry is sort of "sticky" when you try to cut a living tree. My question for the Porch is: Can anyone suggest when this might have been made? John Ruth Whose friend immediately suggested that the Swedes would be prime candidates to make a GREAT firewood saw. |
