I am fixing a block plane for a friend that is a middle aged Stanley #60.
It has an 'H' stamped deeply on the underside of the blade.  Any idea what
the H means?

I see letters stamped on the back of Stanley blades, usually 1930's up 
to the 1950's or so.  My guess is that it's an inspector's mark or some 
sort of batch mark.

But that's just a guess
