April showers etc etc..pouring here right now but we need it. The flea
markets are starting to bloom somewhat as well but I'm still fighting
for every find. Another good run of stuff in here to tickle everyone's
fancy.

I'd really prefer a check for payment for all items. On items less than
$25 (not including shipping) no PayPal. On combined purchases totaling
over $25 then PayPal is okay. This is for the USA buyers only. The out
of country folks, PayPal will be accepted for all purchase, unless you
want to send me a US denominated money order, then that is fine. Sorry
for the inconvenience but I'm just trying to cut the costs down a bit here.

And remember........da more ya buy, the cheaper they fly!

First contact (that is e-mail, or phone) that says I want it get's it.
Oldtools terms, except on items and orders over $100, if I don't know
ya or haven't done business in the past (and my records good way back..)
then it's pre-pay. I do take PayPal (except as noted). Prices do not
include shipping. All items are shipped with Delivery Confirmation.
Insurance, unless it is a big order or a very fragile item is optional.
Just let me know. Also, I am shipping a lot more stuff via First
Class mail. There will be a small amount added to the shipping cover
the cost of the padded mailer. I don't get them for free.

Please put your name and address in the message. Saves time and email
traffic!

Pick of Litter

James Swan 8 Inch Draw Knife or Drawknife. Measuring 14" overall, the
blade is a hair under 8" long, 1 3/16" wide across the edge, and this
weighs 1 lb 1/2 oz unboxed. This is in reasonably good shape and was
cleaned. The back has some light scuffs and scratches from being
sharpened. The edge is good and with a little stone work, that will be
ready to go. There is one light band of pitting on the front and a few
spots of frosting. The top is good and was never hit on. The handles
have a few spots where the finish is worn and there are a little bit of
paint stains. The handles are good otherwise and on tight. The
ferrules and end caps are good as well. This ain't minty but it sure
ain't bad either. $42.00

H O White Hebron Ct No 3 Early Screw Lock Iron Brace. Measuring 11
5/16" long, the sweep is 8", and this weighs 1 lb 7 oz unboxed. H O
White started making braces around 1830 in Hebron CT and not much else
is known about him. This is in good shape and was cleaned. There isn't
much in the way of patina on the frame other than some spots of light
pitting on the back arm. The chuck is good with no cracks and the
screw, which looks to be the original one, works just fine. The pad has
some light stuff and was originally black japanned. The screw doesn't
turn. The pad has some play on the shaft but that's common. All in
all, this one is in good shape for the age and braces by White do not
show up every day. I also have a No. 4 White on here as well. Grab
both of them and save on the shipping. $35.00

Early P S & W 12 Inch Sweep Brace. Measuring 15 1/8" long, the sweep is
12", and this weighs 2 lbs 14 1/2 oz unboxed. Daniel Powers of
Shelburne, MA and Obed Peck of Rowe, MA were granted Patent No. 212,110
on Feb. 11, 1879 for the design of the chuck used on this brace. On the
back of the ratchet is faintly marked with the patent date of Feb. 19,
1884, which was Pat. No. 293,957 granted to Robert Ellrich of
Plantsville, CT for the pawl and ratchet system. This is in reasonably
good shape and was cleaned. There is a little patina there and here but
nothing too bad. The chuck and jaws are good but the chuck could stand
a little oil. The ratchet works and the teeth are good as well. The
grip and pad look to be rosewood. They have some dings but nothing too
bad. The pewter rings on the sides of the grip have some dings but are
solid. The pad has some play on the shaft. This ain't minty but
considering the fact that this guy is well over 110 years old, well it
sure ain't bad. $25.00

Two Johns Mfg Spee-Dowl Dowel Making Planes. The left one makes a 5/8"
diameter dowel, the right one makes a 3/4", and they weigh 1 lb 7 3/4
ozs unboxed. Winthrop Johns was a Plainfield NJ tool designer,
inventor, and manufacturer in business from the late 1940's until the
early 1960's. His tools were sold mainly by mail order from ads in
Popular Science and other magazines. These are in used but reasonably
good shape and were not cleaned. There is a little sawdust and what
have you on the bodies but nothing too bad. Both bodies are good
otherwise. Couple of the handles are in tight and do not want to remove
but I'm not going to risking breaking anything by trying to get the off.
The one has a small ding and there are a few of the obligatory points
of paint. Both blade screws work and the blades are clean but they will
need a sharpening. From what I have read, this style was made to be
used on a wood lathe (slow moving!) but they could be used by hand.
These tools do not show up very often to say the least. $60.00

Fancy Handle Early Hand Forged Clam or Oyster Shucking Knife. Measuring
7 3/4" and this weighs 13 3/4 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker.
This is in decent condition and was cleaned. There is some overall
light pitting on the blade and body but that's an occupational with this
kind of tool. The blade is straight and doesn't look like it's been
futzed with much. Note the fancy handle treatment, I sure don't see too
many of these made like this. $27.00

Great Old Silversmith Copper Sweepings or Dust Pan. Measuring 5 13/16"
overall, the pan is 3" wide at the edge, 3 1/8" wide at the top, about 2
9/16" long, and this weighs 3 oz unboxed. Now for the history. A
number of years ago I acquired a chest of silversmith's tools from the
estate of a gentleman who had worked at Towle Silversmiths in
Massachusetts from around 1900 until late 1944 when he retired. This is
one of the items that was in that chest. This was used to collect the
silver dust and filings from the workbench which were sent back to the
smelter. Waste not, want not, eh? The pan is copper and the handle is
from a silver spoon. I gave this a quick wipedown with a metal polish
but there are are few crusty spots on the pan. The pan is a cornucopia
of engravings and stamps on both sides. There are other names on this
besides the initials of the guy that the tool came from, so I suspect
this was passed down to him from another worker (he had a number of
early machinist tools in the box that were all made before 1870). All
in all this is a neat item. $28.00

Atkin & Sons Birmingham 1/2 Inch Slipped Side Bead Molding Plane. This
weighs 15 3/4 oz unboxed. Atkin & Sons were a long time Birmingham
England plane and tool maker. This is in reasonably good shape and was
cleaned. Note this is straight, any bending you see is because of
camera lens distortion, although why folks would think that I would sell
a bent plane is beyond me. The body has some stains and light dings but
there also is some nice figure to the beech. Both of the slips do
remove. The boxing has a few light dings on the front section. The
mouth is good. The iron is set at a York pitch which is a slightly
higher angle for hardwoods. The cutting face of the iron is clean other
than a few dots. Slipped side beads were never very common to start
with and finding one that the slips actually remove on, well that is
getting pretty hard to do. $26.00

Stanley Aisle

Stanley SW No 282 Cabinet or Flooring Scraper. This weighs 1 lb 5 1/4
oz unboxed. This is in reasonable condition for the age and use and was
cleaned. There is some overall patina but it ain't like these tools
were purchased just to be admired for their beauty. The japanning on
the head is original and about 80% present plus a few tiny spots of
paint. The wood blade retainer block is good and the screws that set
the blade depth do turn. The locking screw and nut are good. The
handle has some dings, stains, and a hanging hole. The handles on this
vintage were just varnished, the later ones were red. The blade is the
original SW one. That has some scratches and rust staining on the
cutting side. The edges are dull but I'd save this blade for the
collector value. This ain't minty but compared to a lot of these that I
see, well it sure ain't bad. $22.00

Vintage Stanley No 58 Glaziers Chisel. Measuring 5 1/8" from the edge
to the top of the handle, the blade is 3 3/16" long, 1 3/4" wide, this
is 10 5/16" overall, and this weighs 11 3/4 oz unboxed. This is in
decent condition and was cleaned. The back of the blade has some light
pitting. The front has some spots and a user name nicely scratch
engraved. There are some dings on the sides. The ferrule has some
crusty at the bottom. The handle on this originally had the usual
leather washer treatment but that is gone and was replaced (NOT BY ME)
with a Stanley No. 594A plastic hammer face. That isn't centered evenly
but it's better than being bashed all up. What can I say, these guys
got used hard and rarely in a polite fashion. This sure ain't perfect
but then it's sure not the most common Stanley chisel to say the least.

Stanley SW No 30 Adjustable Carpenters Level. Measuring 26" long and
this weighs 3 lbs 3 1/2 oz unboxed. Justus A. Traut of New Britain, CT
was granted Pat. No. 820,028 on May 8, 1906 for some of the features of
this tool. This is in reasonably good shape and was cleaned. The body
has some light dings, few tiny paint drops, and scuffs but it's better
than 90% of these guys that I see. That is the original finish plus a
coat of wax. All the brass was made pretty. All the screws work on the
blades and I tried all the adjustment screws to make sure that they
would turn which they do. The three level vials are present and look to
be original. This might need to be trued, this an old building and
there ain't nothing level here that I can check it against. This ain't
ain't pristine but it sure ain't bad either. $25.00

Stanley No 118 Low Angle School Steel Body Block Plane. This weighs 1
lb 2 oz unboxed. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. The
sides have some light frosting. The sole has a patch of light pitting
at the rear and some overall frosting. The japanning is original and
about 80& present except on the heel where it's chipped off. The cap
has some wear to the finish and some light rusting. The blade has some
dinging at the top but the cutting face is fairly clean. The blade will
need a sharpening. The knob has some glazing and does not remove. I
did oil the depth adjuster screw. This ain't no collector's classic but
these guys rarely are. $18.00

Three Stanley Alloy Cold Chisels. There is a 3/8" No. 761 cape chisel,
a 3/8" No. 766 round bottom chisel, a 1/4" No. 778 diamond point chisel,
and they weigh 1 lb unboxed. This are in used but decent condition and
were cleaned. There is some rust staining and wear to the finish. The
edges are fairly good but could stand a touch up if you would want to
shave with these guys. All the striking ends had some mushrooming
cleaned off at some point but they are good to go. These ain't NOS but
they will get the job done. $14.00

Stanley No G12-203 No 3 Smooth or Smoother Plane. This weighs 3 lbs
unboxed. This is in good condition and was cleaned. Made In England.
The sides are good other than the factory machining marks. The sole has
more of the same. The finish is original and close to 100% except for a
bit on the toe and the top of the side. The lever cap has some light
pinpoints of patina. The chipbreaker has a little funky as well. The
blade has some light stuff on the exposed areas and the back but the
cutting face is clean other than a few light spots down along the edge
and there is lots to work with. The blade will need a sharpening as
there are some small chips on the edge. The tote and knob are plastic.
Those are good other than some light dings. All the screws work and
were oiled as needed. This ain't going to be the pride and joy of your
plane collection but for a job site plane it will be just fine. $30.00

Old Stanley Magnetic Peen Upholsterer Tack Hammer. Measuring 11"
overall, the head is 3 13/16" long, and this weighs 7 3/4 oz unboxed.
This is reasonably good shape and was cleaned. The head has some light
patina and scratches. I did clean off a whisker of sharp mushrooming
from the sides of the face but the face is good otherwise. The peen is
good and the magnet is fairly strong. The handle has some wear and
stains but it's solid. The head does wiggle a little but it's not going
anywhere. This ain't minty but it sure ain't bad either. $15.00

Stanley No 42-187 Line Level On The Card. This weighs 1/2 oz unboxed.
The card is Copyright 1980 so that gives you an idea of the vintage.
This is NOS as far as I can see. I did put a piece of tape on the
blister bubble because it was starting to peel off and fixed a rip at
the hanging hole. The original hardware store label is on the back. I
sure don't see too many of these around on the card. $12.00

inside caliper, 2 3/4" high, a divider, 3 3/4" from the tips to the top
of the spring, an outside caliper that is a hair under 3" high, and they
weigh 2 oz unboxed. The divider is marked, the other two are not, but
they were all found in a set of Union tools and the nuts match the
divider. These are in good shape and were not cleaned. There are a few
oil spots but nothing worth yelling about. The tips and screws are all
good. These are every bit as good a tool as their Starrett and Brown &

patina on both sides of the head. The rulings are all readable and the
edges are good. The screw works and holds position. The tempered 6"

the June 2, 1885 patent date which is Pat. No. 319,215 granted to
Charles P. Fay of Springfield, MA. These are in used but good shape and
were cleaned. There are a few light spots of patina there and here but
nothing too bad. The tips on the No. 83 were shortened a little at some
point, the rest are good. All the screws and nuts work just fine.

Lufkin Rule Co No 511 Machinist Depth Gauge & Protractor. This weighs 1

good shape. The only cleaning was to dust off some light stuff on the
rule. The head has a little wear to the bluing on the front and there
is a user initial (J) and three dots punch marked. The back is clean.
The rule has a little staining but all the rulings are readable. I
didn't try the screw on the hook, all my small screwdrivers are MIA at
present. The screw works just fine. This ain't minty but it sure ain't
bad and Lufkin machinist tools are every bit as good as their Starrett

overall wear to the finish. The lid is a little hard to close but it
does close and latch. There is a check on the bottom but this is solid.

hermaphrodite caliper which is a Krauter, Newark NJ. These are in
reasonably good shape and cleaned. The hermaphrodite caliper has some
light patina on the straight tip and user initials. The other 3 have no

Great Early Hand Forged Turnscrew or Screwdriver With Ring Handle.

(across the outside), and this weighs 6 1/4 oz unboxed. Not signed as

is some light pitting down at the tip on both sides, and a few spots on
the rest of the body. The eye is good. I have to say, that in all my
years of selling tools, this is the first one that I have ever seen made
like this and I don't expect to see too many more. I don't think that
this was made from a trap spring, only because there is no wear on the

Old Hand Forged Blacksmith Hollow Jaw or Rivet Tongs. Measuring 18 1/4"
long, the jaws are 3 1/8" deep (overall), the tips are about 1" deep and

This is in decent condition and was cleaned. The jaws have a little bit
of wear but there is still plenty there to hold a hot dog over the forge
for making a quick lunch. There is some welding slag around the one
side of the joint but this wasn't repaired (and it kinda looks like the
fool managed to weld it shut, but it's all better now). The joint has

and old age. The edge is good and fairly sharp. The striking button

Early Hand Forged 5/8 Inch Wheelwright Bruzz or Corner Chisel.
Measuring 10 9/16" overall, the blade is 6 3/16" long (down the back
edge), 5/8" wide, and this weighs 9 1/2 oz unboxed. Not signed as to
the maker. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. There is some
overall patina. The blade has some spots of pitting on both sides of
the back. The blade was also reduced from a 90 degree angle about half
way up the blade to around 75% (educated guesstimate) at the end making
this a bruzz. Look it up. The blade isn't straight along the back
either. The socket is good and looks to have never been hit. Note the
treatment between the blade and the socket, that is the mark of an early

and this weighs 1 lb 1/2 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. This
is in decent condition and was cleaned. There is some overall patina.
The blade has a bit of a wave to it, looking from the side, and the tip
was dressed recently. The handle has some chisel dings on both sides
and the end has a little mushrooming. But it's solid. This guy had a
hard life but it's still around today. $24.00

the one hook is 2 5/16" wide across the outside, the other one is 2
3/16" wide, and this weighs 13 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker.
This is in decent condition and was cleaned. Yeah, somebody laid a
coat of black paint on top of the rust to pretty it up but I got rid of
most of that. The one hook has a scroll end that is worn. The end of
the other hook is broken off a little. There is a little wear inside
the hooks but nothing too bad. This guy is solid enough for all but the
heaviest of pots. I gotta say that these early pot hooks are sure
getting few and far between any more. $20.00

and was cleaned. The body has some light patina and a score mark on the
underside, probably for identification purposes. The face and the peen
edge are steel, forge welded to a wrought iron body. The face has some
chips off of the one edge but the rest of it is clean. The peen is
good. The eye is good as well, considering how much time it took to get
the old POS handle off of this guy. This ain't minty but these guys

There is some overall pitting. The edge is fairly good. There are some
dings on the outside of the wings on the lower part of the eye but I
don't see any cracks. The eye is good otherwise. The poll has light
mushrooming and I did file off one small sharp edge. This one ain't the

Old Hand Forged Stubby Blacksmith Hot Cut Chisel Head. Measuring 3

Not signed as to the maker. This is in decent condition and was

did rough in a new edge but that will need a bit of finishing if you
want to shave yer pride and joy with this. There is the usual bloom of
mushrooming and I gave it a light zinging to tone down the sharp edges.
The eye looks like it was filled in a little on the underside but it's
solid with no cracks that I can see. This is what it is, but it will
