GG’s, This tool followed me home this evening. I suspect it is some sort of wire crimper and/or cutter but I am not sure. It certainly does not cut 1/8 inch braided steel cable, which is what I tested it on. I’m curious about its purpose and how it is to be used. http://galootcentral.com/component/option,com_copperminevis/Itemid,2/pl ace,displayimage/album,lastup/cat,0/pos,0/">http://galootcentral.com/component/o ption,com_copperminevis/Itemid,2/place,displayimage/album,lastup/cat,0/pos,0/ <http://galootcentral.com/component/option,com_copperminevis/Itemid,2 /place,displayimage/album,lastup/cat,0/pos,0/">http://galootcentral.com/componen t/option,com_copperminevis/Itemid,2/place,displayimage/album,lastup/cat,0/pos,0/ > or http://tinyurl.com/kowj26f <http://tinyurl.com/kowj26f">http://tinyurl.com/kowj26f> A cursory google search did not provide any close matches. The tool is marked “Sargent & Co, New Haven Conn, Made in USA” on one of the jaws, and merely “Sargent” on each of the handles. No other identifiers are present. It is a spring-loaded tool, in that the handles and jaws open by themselves after being closed by hand. Thanks, JL |

Some pix of it from different angles and of it in the "open & closed" positions might be helpful. I'm suspicious that the little opening in the middle of the tool is not where the work done by the tool is done. |

GG’s, Depending upon which e-gizmo I’m using I’m either looking at the classic HTML web page or a chain of emails, and as a result I am confusing who said what to whom, and when. Martin Donnelly sent me a copy of the patent for the above mentioned tool last night. It is an “aglet crimper.” My shoelaces will never be the same! See US Patent 1,627,307 “Hand Tool” for details. Thanks! JL |

Remarkable! Some picture of the tool in use here- http://centeringwithfiber.blogspot.com/2011/06/more-saori-woven-sandal- straps.html">http://centeringwithfiber.blogspot.com/2011/06/more-saori-woven- sandal-straps.html I usually just work epoxy into my frayed laces and trim the ends, but this is a lot classier. |
