251767 William Ghio <bghio@m...> 2014‑11‑19 Marples 6808 mitre box query
The "miter box" in question is for picture framing. The question is what is the
best size saw for it? Anybody got one?

I have a Stanley framing vise and a Marsh which have the same set up
for using a saw. A 14 inch back saw does the trick. I've used a
Craftsman 14 inch back saw and a Spear and Jackson 14 incher. You
could go a little longer maybe, but not much longer.

OK, so it looks like I can go w/ a saw between 14 and 26 inches w/ a four inch
height. This is not my box and I have only seen the pics i posted so I was
really hoping some Galoot would have one for direct measurements. The miter box
is actually some 10,000 miles away from me. It belongs to my GIT brother and he
truly lives in an Old Tool Hell, about 200 miles out in the sticks outside
Melbourne, Austraila. I often half to source things for him. In this case, as he
put it, "I don't have a clue about what to look for in a saw." I have an offer
of a saw, that I am about to follow up on, but if anybody has a saw that might
fit to sell, give me a shout

Bill

A few years ago I had a similar one that did not have the clamps - it was also a
Marples. It came with a 14” back saw that looked pretty standard.
