Just a taste of autumn in the air here so far but it's a coming. As
always there are some great collectibles and good users in this list.
I'd really prefer a check for payment for all items. On items less
than $25 (not including shipping) no PayPal. On combined purchases
totaling over $25 then PayPal is okay. This is for the USA buyers
only. The out of country folks, PayPal will be accepted for all
purchase, unless you want to send me a US denominated money order,
then that is fine. Sorry for the inconvenience but I'm just trying
to cut the costs down a bit here.
And remember........da more ya buy, the cheaper they fly!
First contact (that is e-mail, or phone) that says I want it get's
it. Oldtools terms, except on items and orders over $100, if I don't
know ya or haven't done business in the past (and my records good way
back..) then it's pre-pay. I do take PayPal (except as
noted). Prices do not include shipping. All items are shipped with
Delivery Confirmation. Insurance, unless it is a big order or a very
fragile item is optional. Just let me know. Also, I am shipping a
lot more stuff via First Class mail. There will be a small amount
added to the shipping cover the cost of the padded mailer. I don't
get them for free.
Please put your name and address in the message. Saves time and email traffic!

Da Goot Stuff
Tower & Lyon Chaplins Patent 1872 Transitional Wood Body
Plane. Measuring 14 7/8" long and this weighs 3 lbs 13 1/2 oz
unboxed. Orril R. Chaplin of Boston, MA was granted Pat. No. 126,519
on May 07, 1872 for the design of this tool. Tower & Lyon were New
York NY hardware dealers and tool makers in business from 1862 until
1902. This is in decent condition and was cleaned and refinished by
someone else. The body has the usual dings and wear. The sole has
some chips but the mouth is reasonably tight. The frame was
repainted. The cap is good but does show some evidence of being
cleaned on the underside. The blade is the correct one but it does
have some noticeable pitting. Shame because there is a lot left
there. The knob is good. The tote has an old repair to the horn and
a repaired crack farther down. I did not have that or the knob off
but whoever cleaned this guy must have. This ain't perfect but then
Chaplins Patent transitional planes do not show up every day, week,
month, or even year. $60.00

Stanley No 5 Type 16 Jack Plane. This weighs 4 lbs 8 3/4 oz
unboxed. This is a Type 16 and was made by Stanley between 1933 and
1941. This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned. The
sides have some tiny dings and scratches. The sole has some light
scratches as well and some very light frosting. The japanning is
original and 95% to the good. The lever cap is clean other than a
couple of small spots. The chipbreaker is good. There is some light
patina on the exposed areas of the blade on the front and back. The
cutting face of the blade is clean other than the odd light dot and
spot and there is lots to work with. The blade will need a
sharpening. The tote and knob have most of the original finish plus
some wax. The knob has some dings on the top. There is a wee bit of
chipping on the end of the horn of the tote and some stained spots to
the varnish. Both are solid. All the screws work and were
oiled. This one ain't minty but it sure ain't bad either. $45.00

Uncommon E F Dixie Worcester MA Spokeshave or Spoke Shave. Measuring
9 1/2" long, the blade is 2 1/8" wide, and this weighs 10 1/2 oz
unboxed. E. F. Dixie was a tool maker who made wrenches and iron
spokeshaves in Worcester MA around 1851. This is in decent condition
and was cleaned. The japanning is pretty much a memory. The sole
has one spot of pitting and some frosting. The cap has some light
pitting. The blade is pretty much at the end of things but it is
close to being sharp and with a little care in sharpening this could
be lightly used. All the screws work and were oiled. This isn't
perfect but there sure ain't too many of these guys around by this
maker. $25.00

Early Mahogany Slitting Gage or Gauge. The beam is 11 3/16" long, 1
7/16" wide, the head is 4 3/8" wide, 3" high, 1 9/16" thick, and this
weighs 11 3/4 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker, there are user
initials on the head and arm. Both the lower part of the head and
the underside of the beam have bone or some other natural material
plating. This is in well used condition and was cleaned. The beam
has some dings and wear. The plating on the beam is chipped off on
the working side and there is some wear. The wedge is ebony. That
has a ding on the finial but it is solid. The blade is reasonably
good but I cant' say if it's original or not. The head has some
dings and chips. There is some wear to the head and the
plating. Just imagine how many thousands of times this was used to
put that kind of wear on this. There is no wedge for the
head. Again, there is NO wedge for the head. The head does remove
from the beam. This ain't perfect by any stretch and it is not a
user, but then not every tool is. If it was in better shape, there
would be 1 in front of the price because that's what these guys sell
for when you can find one. $40.00

Early Hand Forged T Handle 1 1/2 Inch Workbench Screw Tap. Measuring
10 1/8" high, the blade 3 1/8" long, the cut looks to be 1 1/2" in
diameter, the handle is 16" wide, and this weighs 1 11 1/4 oz
unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. This is in decent condition
for the age and was cleaned. The teeth are all good except for the
very last one that has a small chip off of it. The handle has some
wear and the grain is lifting in spots but it feels solid
enough. The nut that holds the blade on does remove and this will be
shipped in "kit" form to make the packing easier. This is a hard to
find tool even on the best of days and they sure don't show up for a
buck or two at yard sales. $38.00

Old Hall 8 Inch Adjustable Machinist Bench Level. The base is 7
15/16" long, 1 3/16" wide, and this weighs 1 lb 2 oz unboxed. I
believe that is was made by the Frank Hall company out of Ohio. This
is good shape. The only cleaning was to pretty up the machined
surfaces and wipe down the body. The yellow level vial is good. I
tried the screw and the adjustment nuts and they both work. This may
need to be trued but this is an old building and there ain't much for
passes as level here. The body finish is worn in a couple of
spots. The machining on the sides and underside isn't the prettiest
but there are no problems there to speak off. I have to say that
this style of level by this maker does not sure up very often. $40.00

H O White Hebron Ct No 4 Taylor Patent Iron Brace. Measuring 11 1/8"
long, the sweep is 6 1/2", the throw is 3 1/4", and this weighs 1 lb
2 1/4 oz unboxed. Not much is known about H O White other than he
started making braces around 1830 in Hebron CT. The mark is a bit
faint but it can be read. This is in decent condition and was
cleaned. There is some overall light pitting. The chuck is good
with no cracks that I can see. The bit catch is good. The pad has
some crusty on the inside and pitting on the back. The pad has play
on the shaft but it ain't going to fall off. While Taylor patent
braces aren't uncommon, one with this mark in this size is pretty
close to the rare rating. $40.00

Great Looking Early Oak Cord or Yarn Reel. Measuring 9 1/4" long,
the reel is 4 1/2" long, the ends are 3 3/8" in diameter, the center
is 7/8" in diameter, and this weighs 6 1/2 oz unboxed. Not signed as
to the maker. To my eye, this could be Shaker make but I nothing to
substantiate that with other than it came out of upstate New
York. This is good condition and was not cleaned by me. There are a
few small spots of that and this but nothing bad at all. The reel is
good with no cracks and spins freely. The reel was turned from a
solid block of oak and the ends show the end grain. The handle is
oak as well and other than a few very light dings, that is as good as
these get. The end of the shaft has a little bit of mushrooming,
this must have been used with that end held down on a table or bench. $28.00

Old Unplated Beech Wood Cabinet Makers Bitstock. Measuring 14 5/18"
long, the sweep is 8", the throw is 4", and this weighs 1 lb 5 3/4 oz
unboxed. This is signed, looks like Buchanon on the back arm in
ink. There are a few user intials as well stamped there and
here. This is in reasonably good shape for the age and was
cleaned. The body has some light dings and wear but there are no
cracks or repairs which is uncommon with this style of bitstock. The
chuck is good and lined with iron or steel as was the practice. The
spring and bit catch are good. This one has the button on the right
side of the head (looking from the rear) but that is how it was
made. I did have the chuck off the tool. The pad is Lignum
Vitae. That has a check on the turn where it meets the body and one
on the head. There are a couple of dings as well but all things
considered that isn't bad at all. I have to say that it's been more
than a few years since I had one of these guys in this kind of shape. $55.00

overall, the head is about 4 5/16" long, 2" wide at the top, 2 1/8"
wide at the bottom, and this weighs 1 lb 6 oz unboxed. Not signed as
to the maker. This is in very good condition and was cleaned by
someone else but they did a good job. The center of the head and the
handle has some light patina but that's to be expected. Both of the
edges are good. I have to say that while regular broom maker's
hammers are uncommon at best, an early one like this is a rare find
indeed. $50.00

weighs 8 oz unboxed. Samuel D. Sargent of Hartford, CT was granted
Pat. No. 141,081 on July 22, 1873 for the design of this tool. This
in good shape and was cleaned. The blade has some light patina
overall, plus a few smaller spots that are a little heavier. The
body is good for the most part other than a few dings and a little
pitting down at the bottom on the one side. There is most of the
japanning in the centers. The joint and locking screw work like they
are supposed to work. The head of the locking screw does have some
pitting. I didn't have the joint apart. This is not a very common
tool in this vintage and condition at all. $45.00

it. The case has some wear to the finish and the odd ding on the top
and edges. There are no cracks that I can see. There is a piece of
green felt glued on the inside. The underside has a little patina
but that was never finished to start with. The stone is a man made
stone. I can sort of read Coarse on the one end but it is a double
sided stone. There are some chips on the corners of the one
end. The faces don't look too bad. I don't see much in the way of

to predate the start of H & C Disston in 1865, but feel free to
correct me. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. Been used
and sharpened a time or three. There is some light pitting on the
blade. All the saw teeth are present. The handle is black walnut
(the later ones were either applewood or beech). That has some wear
and a few dings but all things being equal in a hand grenade tossing

Early Hand Forged Denglestock PA Dutch Scythe Sharpening Anvil.
Measuring 7 3/16" long, the face is 1 5/16" wide, and this weighs 1
lb 3 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. Now what's a
denglestock (also spelled dengelstock and a bunch of other ways as
well), you ask? Well them old PA Dutch (German) farmers, being of a
thrifty (also know as cheap) bunch, instead of grinding down their
scythe blades, would stick the denglestock into a stump or the top of
a fence post and using a cross peen hammer (called the dengle of all
things) would draw out the edge of the blade till it was sharp and
then dress it with a stone. Pretty neat eh? This is in decent shape
and was cleaned. This does have a steel face set into the wrought
iron body and that is some right hard steel. This is in decent
condition for the age and use and was cleaned. There is some overall
patina. The face does have a chip off of the one side. The spike is
good. $23.00

Screwdriver. Measuring 11 9/16" when closed (excluding the bit), 17
1/2" when extended, and this weighs 1 lb 3/4 oz unboxed. Leonard M.
Davis of Erving, MA was granted Pat. No. 621,401 on Mar. 21, 1899 for
the design of this tool. The number mark was struck twice and it
looks like a 44 but they never made a 44, only a 41 and 42 (same
tool, more goodies). This is in decent condition and was
cleaned. There is some light patina on the metal parts. The tip of
the blade was thinned. The chuck does work. There is some wear to
the insides (things wiggle a bit). The reverse does work but this
could stand some oil on the shaft. The handle has some dings and
user initials marked on the one side. The end is chipped up a bit
and pushed in. Perfect picked up and moved out of town on this guy a
long time ago but considering that it's anywhere from 89 to 115 years
old, well things do happen. $22.00

that's an occupational hazard with a tool that is used outdoors. The
head is good other than the pitting. The end of the shaft is hollow
and the handle was forge welded inside of it. How deep the hollow
part goes I can't say. The handle is solid. This is what it is but

this guy. This is in reasonably good shape and was not cleaned by

nothing serious patina wise. There is a chip out of the edge that
will need to be worked out at some point but there is plenty to work
with. The ferrule is good. The rosewood handle has some scuffs at

of this size. The tang has a little wear but nothing too bad
there. This ain't perfect but these larger ones ain't exactly
growing on trees. $12.99

18th Century Hand Forged Cobblers or Cordwainers Hammer
Head. Measuring 4 5/8" long (straight across), the face is 1 3/4" in
diameter (more or less), the peen is 2 1/8" wide, and this weighs 14
1/4 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. This is in decent
condition. Someone else did some cleaning on the face and peen. I
did some light rust removal. The face has some scuffs and
dings. The peen was almost brought to a sharp edge but that's not
too bad. There is a thin crack showing along the right side (looking
from the rear) from the back of the face to the start of the eye. It
does not run up to the face and the eye is good. As long as you
don't pound framing nails with this guy, it will be okay. This ain't
perfect but for being over 200 years old, well it ain't all that bad
either. $17.00

Vintage Small Machinist Surface Gauge. Measuring 5 1/2" high, the
base is 2 1/2" in diameter, the pointer is 5 7/8" long, and this
weighs 5 1/2 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker, there is a user
name stamped 3 times on the base. This is in reasonably good shape
and was cleaned. The shaft is good. The base has some light patina
on both sides. The pointer has some light pitting. The brass clamp
is good and the locking screw works like it's supposed to work. This
ain't perfect but you sure don't see too many of these older ones
around. $17.00

too bad. There are user initials lightly scratched on the arm. The
joint is good and all the rulings are readable. This is a quality
and handy tool. $15.00

Uncommon North Bros Yankee No 3800 Ratcheting Reversible Screwdriver.
Measuring 4 13/16" long, the tips are 3/8" and 7/16" wide, and this
weighs 2 oz unboxed. This is in reasonably good shape and was
cleaned. There is a little patina on the body but nothing too bad
there. The tips are good and the ratchet works in both direction.
There ain't much more to go wrong with these guys. The 3800 is a lot
less common than the No. 3500 model, at least from what I have seen
over the decades. $12.00

Two Stanley Handyman H157 6 Inch Wood Working Clamps. They weigh 1
lb 8 1/4 oz unboxed. These are in used condition and were not
cleaned. Note these are straight, any bending you see is because of
camera lens distortion. The upper one has a few paint splats. The
lower one has some light rust stains on the bar. Both have the
original prices stamped in ink on the bars. Needless to say, you
ain't gonna buy clamps like this for those prices no more. The
screws are good. These ain't for heavy duty work but they will get
the job done. $15.00

Craftsman Machinist Depth Gauge & Protractor. The rule is 6" long
and this weighs 1 1/4 oz unboxed. This in good shape and was
cleaned. The rule is graduated in 32nds and 64ths. The rule is
clean other than a few stained spots and the edges and corners are
good. The head has some staining and a little frosting. The screw
works. This was probably made by either Lufkin or Millers Falls for
Sears and well it ain't no piece of junk. $15.00

Old Dikeman Mfg Co No 80 Style Cabinet Scraper Plane. This weighs 1
lb 12 3/4 oz unboxed. This is in decent condition and was cleaned
and repainted. The sole has some light pitting as does the screw
heads and blade bar. The blade has some pitting as well but this
takes the same size blades (2 3/4" wide) as the Stanley No. 80. All
the screws work and were oiled. This ain't the prettiest but it will
get the job done and this style of scraper by this maker does not
show up very often. $24.00

sure ain't bad either. $15.00

Good Mfg Co New York NY Gasket Cutting or Cutter Divider
Tool. Measuring 4" long and this weighs 3 1/2 oz unboxed. The Good
Mfg Co was a plumbing supply outfit that started in the early 1900's
and is still around today after merging with another company. This
is in decent condition and was cleaned. There is some light patina
and most of the plating is a memory. The tips are both sharp, the
blade one is a little shorter from being sharpened. The screw works
in both holes. This is a neat tool and it's the first one that I
have seen. $17.00

6 1/2 oz unboxed. This is in good shape and was not cleaned. There
is a little wear on the sides up by the tips but nothing too bad
there. The front and back are good. This does have the original box
but it's a bit funky. Better than nothing though. This is good
quality stone for a lot of applications. $15.00

4 1/2" high, and this weighs 1 lb 10 1/2 oz unboxed. The rule is a
Stanley Life Guard. This is in good shape and was not cleaned. The

pulled the rule out for 10 ft and it's clean so I'm pretty sure the
rest is as well. This is a solid tool to say the least. $17.00

Tool. Measuring 5 5/16" long with the adjustable head all the way

anything about this company other than at some point they were bought
out by C S Osborne. This is is in reasonably good shape. I cleaned
some light patina off of the wheel and treads. The blade is
good. The head travels the full distance. The handle has a couple
of light dings but nothing too bad. This isn't pristine but it will
get the job done. $15.00

unboxed. Marked Poland Hi-Test, there is name above there that I
can't read and a touch mark of sorts on the back. This is in
reasonably good shape and was cleaned. There is a little patina on
the blade, shaft, and handle frame, but nothing too bad. The blade
is good at the tip. The handle scales have a few dings but they are
solid and on tight. This ain't perfect (well other than the handle
style) but it sure ain't bad either. $17.00

Two Hagerty Lumber Co Phillipsburg NJ Advertising Drafting Scale
Rules. They weigh 1 1/4 oz unboxed. The Hagerty Lumber Co started
back in the 1800's from what I can find but I don't have a closing
date. The phone numbers are the old 5 digit ones so I would guess
these are from the 1940's or 1950's. These are in very good
condition and were not cleaned. Other than a few light scuffs to the
finish there ain't nothing to fuss about with these guys. The
smaller one is ruled for 6" plus has rulings for making scale
drawings. The big one isn't ruled per se but has scale drawing and
joist layout rulings. I gotta say that finding a pair of these in
this kind of shape is a real find. $18.00
